According to a recent report by The Times (Paid Subscription Required), Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are claimed to be considering offloading Danish sensation Christian Eriksen in January, with the midfielder keen to find a move away from Tottenham. The veteran star is said to have already agreed on a deal in principle with Italian super-club Inter Milan but is suggested to be willing to wait until the summer so he can move away on a free.
The report further suggests that despite the long-standing midfield magician’s desire to find a new club, he’s willing to wait for more offers from elsewhere. Although Inter Milan would be a good realistic destination for the Dane’s amazing talents, he certainly possesses more than enough quality to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.
What Is Christian Eriksen’s Legacy At Tottenham Hotspur?
Born in the Danish town of Middelfart, the 27-year-old began his playing career at Odense before he earned a well-deserved move to Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam. After impressing for last season’s Champions League semi-finalists, the youngster was identified as a potential superstar by the chiefs at Tottenham and signed up over the summer of 2013.
Since making the move, the midfielder has grown into one of the most influential players at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has pitched in with umpteen unquantifiable contributions along the way. In over 300 appearances for the North London club, the Dane has notched up a highly impressive return of 69 goals and 89 assists, all this while mostly operating out of the deep-lying midfielder’s role.
Why Tottenham Just Cannot Afford To Sell Eriksen.
Ever since joining, he’s undoubtedly become one of the most important players at the club and was a highly integral part of former manager Mauricio Pochettino’s system. He had a massive role to play on their way to the final of the Champions League last season and has singlehandedly won Spurs multiple football matches over the years as well.
Spurs have begun a new chapter in the club’s story under the managership of former Chelsea and Manchester United gaffer Jose Mourinho. Despite the good start they showed under the new manager, things have begun to fall apart once again at the newly constructed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The midfielder adds a bit of gusto and flair to the core of the Spurs team and possesses a lot more finesse than some of the attacking players currently at the Portuguese manager’s disposal. The North London club needs to retain Eriksen beyond January and considering his sheer quality; it would be smart to tie him down for the long run as well. Yes, easier said than done, we know!
