According to the reports from Daily Record, Premier League high flyers Sheffield United have now joined the race to sign Stoke City’s striker Tyrese Campbell. Celtic have been linked with a move for him along with their arch-rivals Rangers in the January window so far.
Campbell is in the final few months of his contract with the Championship club, and he could be available on a cut-price deal. Stoke City have reportedly offered him a new contract, but the player is yet to decide about his future.
The England u-20 international had struggled for game time in 2019, but he has managed to turn things around in the last few games. Campbell has four goals and one assist in the previous five Championship appearances, and he recently scored the only goal of the match against table-toppers West Brom which gave the Potters the crucial three points.
Chris Wilder indicates new signings set to come
Sheffield United’s boss Chris Wilder has already indicated that they are going to be active in the final week of the transfer window. The Blades boss said, ”I believe we will get one or two in definitely in the next week. As we all know, it is a moving market.”
Campbell could well be in their plan, especially after his recent performances. Neil Lennon meanwhile has indicated that we could expect one or two more signings to come in. The Hoops have already signed a striker in the form of Patryk Klimala. Hence, it remains to be seen whether the club would invest in another one or not in this window.
What can Campbell add at Parkhead?
20-year-old Campbell is known for his physical prowess and pace. The Englishman keeps the opposition defenders on edge with his high pressing, and he is a hard worker off the ball. Campbell is still trying to establish himself for Stoke after being ignored for most parts of the season. He is far from a finished product, but the raw ingredients are there in the English youngster.
The lure of the Premier League could be tough to ignore, and Sheffield can offer Campbell a better financial deal than Celtic. Hence, the entry of them in the race for his signature is a blow for the Hoops. However, Lennon has already completed the signing of a striker, so we don’t see him bringing in another one in this window. Nevertheless, Celtic should look to try their luck and bring in Campbell as he seems to have the ability to thrive for the Hoops.
