According to a recent report by Il Mattino (translated by Sport Witness), Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has made contact with Napoli midfielder Allan to discuss a potential switch to Goodison Park in January.
It is believed that the Toffees are eager to recruit a new midfielder before the end of this month as most of Ancelotti’s current options are struggling with injuries this season. Il Mattino (translated by Sport Witness) has also gone on to reveal that Allan will welcome a move to the Premier League as he considers his spell at Naples to be over.
Allan’s Impressive Season In The Italian Top-Flight Thus Far
It has also been stated the Brazilian midfield ace won’t pen a new deal with the Italian club as he fancies a move to England but the Merseyside club are yet to launch a concrete offer for the Serie A playmaker. The 29-year-old has made 20 appearances for the Italian outfit this term, scoring one goal while providing one assist across all competitions. He has averaged 3.2 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.5 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.1 dribbles for both his club and country this season (stats via whoscored).
The former Granada talent has also earned eight international caps for the Brazilian national team but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his nation. There is no doubt that Allan will be a shrewd mid-season signing for the Toffees if they can find a way to get the deal done before the end of this transfer window.
What Will The South American Sensation Bring To Merseyside?
Allan is a deceptively quick midfielder who can make some penetrative runs in the opposition half. The Napoli man’s work-rate at the centre of the park is second to none, and he is very aggressive in the way he approaches the game which makes him such a powerhouse in midfield. The Brazilian playmaker can also put in a solid defensive shift and can make some vital interceptions and last-gasp clearances for his side.
The Serie A star is a complete midfielder and has no weaknesses in his game as such. Hence, he will be an excellent fit for the Toffees as he will add a lot of quality and steel to Ancelotti’s midfield at Goodison Park. Furthermore, he will also bring a winning mentality to the Everton squad, and his vast experience will be an asset for Ancelotti’s young guns as they look to clinch a top-half finish in the Premier League table at the end of this campaign.
Should The Toffees Move In For Him?
Ancelotti should undeniably consider going all out in pursuit of Allan’s signature this month as he could help the Merseyside club salvage their disappointing season in the Premier League. At the same time, Everton could choose to wait until the summer when they will have time to negotiate a mutually beneficial deal with Napoli but will risk facing competition from other clubs that are looking to land a multi-purpose midfielder.
