According to a recent report by Marca, La Liga giants Real Madrid are said to have agreed a deal with Dutch champions Ajax over the services of their Netherlands international midfield star Donny Van De Beek. The report claims that the Galacticos already have a contract agreement in place and that the deal will cost them in the region of £47m during the summer.
It has been suggested in the report that the youngster will not be allowed to make the switch in January midway through the league season, and is likely to see out the rest of the campaign at his boyhood club before making the dream move to Real Madrid. It has also been reported that the Dutchman’s arrival could mean bad news for some of the players already in the Real Madrid roster, with someone likely to be replaced to make room for Van De Beek next summer.
Why Have Madrid Been In The Market For A Creative Midfielder?
Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid side certainly didn’t start the season on a perfect note. Despite all the untimely injuries that they’ve had to deal with, Los Blancos have managed to work their way back up the table into a respectable position. With that said though, the depth of Zidane’s squad has come under question many times this season, and if it wasn’t for Frederico Valverde’s well-timed resurgence, things could look a lot different at the Bernabeu right now.
Luka Modric has been pushed up into an attacking midfield role at times, with the likes of Casemiro, Toni Kroos and the aforementioned Valverde all being required to play almost every fixture. With that said though, any Madrid fan would admit that this squad is unnecessarily large and that there a multitude of players who need to be offloaded because of how they are eating into the overall wage bill.
What Would Van De Beek Add To This Madrid Side?
The Dutchman was one of the most important players during Ajax’s run to the Champions League semifinal last season, and he had a huge part to play on his side’s journey to the Dutch title as well. He is an excellent passer of the ball in the middle of the park and tends to make smart runs into space. Van de Beek is a constant option for the man in possession because of his movement off the ball, and he could be just the creative source that this Real Madrid team has been on the lookout for.
Is Van De Beek The Right Man For Real Madrid?
The 22-year-old operates mainly out of the centre of the park but pitches in with a decent number of goals and assists. Despite still developing as a player, he’s shown on multiple occasions that youthfulness isn’t a problem for the youngster. The fact that the Dutchman can perform consistently at the highest level should be reason enough for a club like Real Madrid to sign him, and with Luka Modric’s rising age now becoming a concern as well, this move does begin to look like a no-brainer for Zidane.
