Manchester United put an end to their dismal run of form by securing a staggering 4-0 win over Norwich City at Old Trafford this evening.
The Red Devils looked hungry for the three points right from the start and looked the better side throughout the game. After a host of attacks, the home side initially found the opener in the 27th minute through Marcus Rashford, thanks to an excellent cross from Juan Mata.
In the second half, United were more clinical in front of goal, though they had to rely on a penalty to find the second goal, once again scored by Rashford. Minutes later, his partner-in-crime Anthony Martial sealed all three points by scoring the third before substitute Mason Greenwood applied more gloss to the scoreline during the final phase of the game.
Here is how the Man United players performed in their win over Norwich City.
David de Gea 7
David de Gea didn’t necessarily have a stroll in the park this evening. He made an excellent save to deny Todd Cantwell right before the end of the first half.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7.5
Wan-Bissaka made a lot of attacking runs into the final third. His offensive support could be improved, but it was the solidity he provided on the flanks that helped Man United retain a clean sheet.
Victor Lindelof 7
A much-improved performance from we have seen lately. The Swede looked composed at the back and rarely offered Norwich any leeway into the final third.
Harry Maguire 7
An imposing presence in the backline, Maguire’s physical and aerial prowess were key as United kept the likes of Adam Idah and Onel Hernandez at bay.
Brandon Williams 8
William looked clumsy at times with the ball at his feet. But, the young left-back made quite an impression with his service on the flanks, especially his crossing. And although he missed a glorious opportunity to score, he did help United win a penalty.
Fred 7
An easy day at the office for the Brazilian, who was presented with a minimal challenge from the Norwich City midfielders. He recovered balls well and at times, and helped United complete the transition.
Nemanja Matic 7
Much like Fred, there was no real competition for Nemanja Matic in midfield. But even then, the Serbian looked loose with his passing. However, his physicality and positioning were key behind United creating turnovers in the middle of the park.
Juan Mata 8.5
Mata was one of the best players in the first half, and this was clearly one of his best performances with the United kit. The Spaniard provided two assists, including an exquisite cross that led to the opener from Marcus Rashford in the 27th minute. His quick-thinking and slick passing were just too hot for the Norwich City backline to handle.
Andreas Pereira 7.5
Starting in the number ten role instead of Mata, the Brazilian looked clueless at times. But overall, he was decent, creating a few opportunities and linking up well with his teammates.
Marcus Rashford 9
Once again showed what he is capable of with two well-taken goals inside the hour-mark. His penalty goal in the second half was indicative of the attacker’s composure. Moreover, Rashford looked quite menacing whenever he had the ball at his feet – arguably making him the star of the show.
Anthony Martial 7.5
Despite looking clumsy in front of goal, Martial impressed the onlookers with his excellent work ethic. He dropped whenever it was needed and linked up well with Rashford. Martial’s tactical astuteness was crucial behind United’s dominance over Norwich.
SUBSTITUTES
Daniel James 6
Replaced Rashford in the 59th minute, which affected United’s overall impact in the final third. But, the Welshman was involved in the fourth goal.
Mason Greenwood 7.5
Replaced Pereira in the 71st minute and made an immediate impact. Showcased excellent finishing prowess to add more gloss the scoreline in the 76th minute.
Angel Gomes N/A
A late replacement for the tiring Martial.
