According to the reports from BBC, Rangers have held talks with Hibernian FC to sign their striker Florian Kamberi. The initial deal will be a loan move, but it is likely to have an option to buy permanently. It is believed that Rangers are looking to bolster their frontline after an injury to Jermain Defoe and Kamberi has emerged as one of the options.
It is not yet sure how long Defoe would be out for, but Rangers cannot surely rely on Alfredo Morelos alone in this tight title race. The Colombian is one yellow away from facing another suspension, and Defoe’s injury has probably changed last minutes plans of Gerrard in the January transfer market.
Kamberi has eight goals and four assists in all competitions so far this season, and he has been in decent form for the Hibs. The striker joined the Scottish club on loan initially in 2018, and his transfer was turned permanent after he impressed for them.
With just a few hours remaining in the transfer window, it remains to be seen whether Rangers would be able to conclude a deal for him or not.
What will Kamberi bring to the table?
Kamberi is known for his strength and pace, and he can be a difficult customer to handle on his day. The Albanian striker has produced some eye-catching displays for the Hibs in the last few seasons, and he has been showing decent form this campaign as well. He can protect and carry the ball forward well, and he seems to have that eye for a goal. The striker might have to improve on his overall work rate and linkup play, but there is certainly a player in him who can play for a club like Rangers.
Good signing for Gerrard?
We believe that he would be a decent signing for Gerrard at this last moment of the transfer window. Rangers need players who would hit the ground running straight away as they cannot afford to bring in players who would take months to adapt.
Given the tight title race we are in at the moment, a player who knows the Premiership and is aware of what it takes to succeed at this level would be a sound pick. The striker is in his prime as he is still 24 and so he can improve further once he moves on to Rangers. However, time is not on Rangers side, and they would need to be quick to get this deal over the line.
