According to the reports from Goal, Rangers are looking to sign Leeds United’s goalkeeper Kamil Miazek. The Bears reportedly failed to sign Legia Warsaw’s custodian Radoslaw Majecki. Majecki is close to moving to Monaco and Gerrard has now turned his attention towards the Leeds man.
Miazek is yet to play for the Whites at the senior level. Leeds United currently have Kiko Casilla as their first-choice goalkeeper. Illan Meslier is the other option who is on loan from Lorient. The English club does have an opportunity to buy Meslier permanently in the summer.
The Whites also completed the signing of Italian youngster Elia Caprile this January who is going to be another goalkeeping option for Bielsa. Hence, Miazek’s future at Elland Road seems uncertain, and there is a good chance that he could leave the club.
Why might Rangers need a goalkeeper?
Miazek is currently in the final few months of his contract, and there are no indications that the Whites will offer him a new deal. Rangers don’t need to go after a goalkeeper this month as they have a handy backup option in Wes Foderingham. However, Foderingham’s contract is also expiring in a few months, and he is unlikely to stay at Ibrox with Allan McGregor firmly being the first choice goalkeeper.
We believe that Rangers are looking to get Miazek on a pre-contract deal which could see him move to Glasgow in the summer on a free contract.
Foderingham recently expressed his disappointment about not playing regularly, and he said that he had lost two years of his career at Rangers. The English ace is good enough to be the first choice goalkeeper for many clubs across the globe. Hence, it is understandable why he seems unhappy at the moment. Andy Firth is the other option at Ibrox who recently signed an extension, but Rangers will need to be on the lookout for Foderingham’s replacement.
Will Miazek be a good bet?
Miazek hasn’t played much at all at the senior level and hence, its tough to comment on how good the 23-year-old would be. The Polish ace had a spell with Feyenoord earlier where he played at their various youth levels. However, he didn’t make it at the top with them. Even at Leeds United, he doesn’t seem to be in favour as the Whites recently brought in a new young goalkeeper.
When they had injury issues last season, Will Huffer was given a preference over Miazek so the Polish ace can’t even be regarded as the third choice at Elland Road. Maybe Rangers can look to find someone more established or someone with more experience. However, if the scouts are feeling satisfied with what Miazek might bring in, then they should go ahead with his signing.
