Liverpool will entertain Southampton at Anfield on Saturday hoping to stretch their lead to 22 points at the top of the Premier League table. The Reds are still unbeaten in the Premier League and are enjoying a rich vein of form at Anfield in recent weeks. The European champions need eight wins out of their remaining 14 league matches to ensure that they are the new Premier League champions and so they will go into this clash desperate to secure maximum points in front of the Kop.
Jurgen Klopp will likely opt for a 4-3-3 formation and might name an unchanged line up for this midweek contest at Merseyside.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Southampton
Defence
Alisson Becker will continue in goal for the Reds after bagging another clean sheet versus the Hammers in midweek. The centre-back pair of Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk will resume their partnership at the heart of the Liverpool defence. They will focus all their energy on keeping Southampton’s in-form striker, Danny Ings quiet this weekend. The former Liverpool forward has enjoyed an excellent run of form for the Saints in recent weeks after netting 14 goals in 24 league matches so far. He will fancy his chances of getting his name on the scoresheet versus his former employers and so the Reds will need to be wary of his threat at Anfield.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will get the nod to operate in the right-back position while Andrew Robertson fills in on the other side as the left-back. Both Liverpool full-backs will look to press high up the pitch so that they can create some decent goal-scoring opportunities for the front players.
Midfield
Klopp might opt for a hard-working midfield three of Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for this clash versus Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men. All three Liverpool midfielders will work their socks off in retaining possession and orchestrating some goal-scoring chances going forward.
Oxlade-Chamberlain managed to get a well-deserved goal against the Hammers which will give him a confidence boost heading into this weekend. Naby Keita, Fabinho and Curtis Jones will all be on standby as part of Klopp’s bench.
Attack
The same front three of Divock Origi, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are expected to line up for the Merseyside giants up top. Salah had a hand in both of his team’s goals versus the Hammers in midweek and so he will be in high spirits heading into this Saturday’s showdown against the Saints at Anfield.
Takumi Minamino will be available on the bench and might come on to make an impact if required.
