According to a recent report by The Sun, Newcastle United are eager to seal a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Paco Alcacer before the end of this month and are willing to offer him more game time to bring him to St. James’ Park. The same source has also claimed that the Magpies are currently in talks over an initial loan deal for the player with a view of a permanent £25m move at the end of this campaign.
Alcacer’s Frustrations In German Football This Season
A change of scenery could boost the Spanish forward’s hopes of being named in Roberto Moreno’s 2020 Euro finals squad. Alcacer has endured a frustrating spell at Signal Iduna Park since arriving from Barcelona last summer. He has only made 15 appearances for Lucien Favre’s side this term, scoring seven goals while providing two assists in all competitions. The Spanish marksman has averaged 1.5 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.2 dribbles per game in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The ex-Valencia man has missed several matches this season due to an Achilles problem and later, a knee injury which explains why Dortmund have been careful with his game time on the field.
Maybe, a loan move for the remainder of this campaign could help the Bundesliga sensation reignite his career in European football. He has also secured 19 senior caps for the Spanish national team and has scored 12 goals for his country in the process.
What Are The Spanish Target Man’s Best Attributes?
Alcacer has decent pace in his locker and can make some dangerous runs in the final third. He can read the game well and can get into some excellent positions inside the opposition penalty area. Furthermore, the ex-Barcelona starlet is an excellent finisher in front of goal and is very effective at retaining possession for his side.
Is Alcacer The Right Choice For The Tyneside Outfit?
The Magpies need a forward who can keep the ball moving and make some driving runs up top. Joelinton has struggled to bang in the goals for Steve Bruce’s side this season. However, with a quality striker like Alcacer playing alongside him, the Brazilian forward could form a fruitful partnership at Tyneside.
To be fair, there are some concerns over the Spaniard’s track record with injuries. Even then, he will be a decent choice for the Magpies as long as Bruce is willing to be patient with him. The Magpies should only deploy him regularly at St. James’ Park once he is ready to play at a high level.
