Barcelona were stunned by Atletico Madrid when everybody expected to see an EL Clasico final in the Supercop de Espana. Nevertheless, Real Madrid will now take on their derby rivals this Sunday in the quest to win their first silverware of the season.
Real Madrid coasted through their semi-final game as they dominated the tie against Valencia to win 3-1. The result was even more impressive given the injury issues Real Madrid are facing at the moment. Zidane would hope for another dominant display, but Atletico Madrid always have the ability to spring up a surprise.
Team News: Marcelo came on as a substitute against Valencia, so he is fit and running again. Marco Asensio continues to be an absentee. Eden Hazard is also going to miss out. Lucas Vasquez is closing in on a return but whether he makes the matchday squad remains to be seen. Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema’s situation are also uncertain at the moment.
Real Madrid Predicted Lineup Vs Atletico Madrid
Formation (4-3-2-1)
Defence
Thibaut Courtois is set to keep his place in goal for the Los Blancos. Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane are expected to partner up again in the centre back role. The duo put in a commendable performance against Valencia where they seemed to have answers to almost everything that was thrown at them. Marcelo might return to the lineup at left-back in place of Ferland Mendy who had a mixed bag of a game in the semi-final. Dani Carvajal should be a nailed-on starter in the right-back position.
Midfield
Casemiro will start in a defensive-minded role in the middle. His job would be to keep things tight. Toni Kroos will be on his left, and he would look to move the ball forward and help his team in attack. Federico Valverde will be on the right side of midfield, and he would be in a box to box role given his energy.
Luka Modric scored with a brilliant finish in the last game, and he will start in a slightly advanced role in midfield. Isco also looked sharp though he lacked a bit of his finishing touch. He is also likely to play in an attacking midfield role.
Attack
Karim Benzema has been the talismanic man for Real Madrid this season, but he could miss out again due to injury. Luka Jovic will likely get the nod again to lead the line.
