According to a recent report by The Independent, Manchester United are eyeing a late move to acquire the services of Teemu Pukki from Norwich City before the transfer window slams shut later tonight. The same source has also mentioned that the Red Devils are desperately trying to recruit a new forward following the injury to Marcus Rashford earlier this month. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Pukki as a potential option, but it will be difficult to persuade the Canaries as they are eager to retain his services at Carrow Road.
Pukki’s Up and Down Season At Carrow Road So Far
Pukki has enjoyed a roller-coaster of a campaign for Daniel Farke’s Norwich side after putting in a string of memorable displays so far in this Premier League season. He performed at a high level and was instrumental behind his team’s win over Manchester City earlier this season.
The Finnish striker has featured in 24 matches for the Norfolk outfit this term, scoring 11 goals while creating three assists in all competitions. He has averaged 2.7 shots, 1.1 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League (stats via whoscored).
The 29-year-old has also earned 75 senior caps for the Finland national team and has registered 20 goals for his country in the process.
What Will The Norwich Marksman Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?
Pukki is a hard-working centre-forward who can get into some dangerous positions in the final third. He excels at linking up play with others around him and is a lethal finisher in front of goal. The Finland international can consistently find the back of the net at the Premier League level. Still, his performances have often not translated to positive results on the pitch, which is a worry for the Canaries.
Is Pukki The Right Choice For The Mancunian Outfit?
Man United will do well to lure Pukki away from Carrow Road this winter. He will not only bring a lot of goals to Old Trafford but will also increase competition for places within Solskjaer’s squad. Furthermore, the likes of Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood can benefit from some added help in the absence of Rashford.
However, one can argue whether a striker of Pukki’s track record is good enough to feature for the Red Devils week in week out. Either way, Solskjaer will have his work cut out for him in his quest to secure the signature of the Finnish talent before the end of this transfer window.
