According to a recent report by Tuttosport (via Goal.com), Manchester United had sent scouts to catch Brescia midfielder Sandro Tonali in action against AC Milan on Friday. Even though Brescia ended up losing that contest by a 1-0 scoreline, Tonali’s performance caught the eyes of the Old Trafford chiefs along with other scouts from Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund (via Goal.com).
Tonali’s Brilliant Rise In The Italian Top-Flight
The 19-year-old has enjoyed an impressive campaign in Italian football after putting in a string of outstanding displays at the heart of the Brescia midfield. He has scored one goal and provided four assists in 21 matches for Eugenio Corini’s side this term across all competitions.
Tonali has averaged 1.3 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 1.0 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game in the Serie A so far (stats via whoscored). He came through the youth ranks of Brescia before breaking out as a first-team starter back in 2018.
The talented teenager has already managed to earn three senior caps for the Italian national side but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his country.
What Are The Italian Whizkid’s Best Attributes?
Tonali has decent pace and is a very effective dribbler with the ball at his feet. He can interchange passes accurately with others around him and can pick out a long pass when a striker makes a well-timed run behind the opposition backline. The young Italian is also a powerhouse in midfield as he can use his incredible strength to overpower the opposition at the centre of the park.
Should The Mancunian Giants Make A Move For Tonali?
Recruiting a player of Tonali’s potential and skill set could prove to be a clever move for the Red Devils in the long-run. He has all the makings to become a world-class player in his position someday.
If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is willing to invest more time with his bright young talents on the training ground, then it makes sense for him to go after a midfielder of Tonali’s potential in the future. However, if Man United are looking for a more immediate solution, then they would be better off opting for more proven players and not go for someone as inexperienced as Brescia’s teen sensation.
