According to the renowned football journalist Nicolo Schira, Manchester United have agreed on a five-year, £98k per week contract with Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho. In a recent post on Twitter, Schira revealed, “Total agreement between Bruno Fernandes agent (Miguel Pinho) and Manchester United until 2025 (£5.1million a year).
“They’ve told to Sporting about Bruno’s desire to play in Premier League. Tomorrow, Manchester United will work to reach agreement with Sporting and close the deal.”
It is understood that the Red Devils will launch a bid in the region of £65m to try and convince the Portuguese outfit to sell their prized asset (via The Daily Express). This recent development will excite anyone associated with the Mancunian club as Fernandes could turn out to be a quality acquisition for them if he can make a smooth transition to the Premier League.
The 25-year-old has enjoyed another productive campaign back in his homeland after he put in a string of match-winning performances for Silas’s side in the Liga NOS. He has registered 13 goals and 13 assists in 24 appearances for the Portuguese giants this term across all competitions.
Fernandes has averaged 2.0 tackles, 3.7 shots, 3.0 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game for Sporting so far in this campaign (stats via whoscored). He has also secured 19 senior caps for the Portuguese national team and has scored on two occasions for his country.
What Are Fernandes’ Best Attributes?
Fernandes has transformed himself into a prolific goal-scorer as he can strike the ball purely and with a lot of power. He excels at dribbling with the ball out of tight areas to either create a goal-scoring chance for himself or set-up someone in space in the final third. He has a high football IQ and has shown during his time at Sporting that he can handle the pressure when the spotlight is on him to deliver on the field.
Will Signing The Portugual International Be A Wise Move For Solskjaer?
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in dire need to make a marquee acquisition this winter so that he can reinvigorate his frailing side and put them back in the top 4 hunt in the English top-flight. The Red Devils have been quite inconsistent in terms of their results this season so a quality playmaker like Fernandes will breath new life to their injury-struck midfield. Both Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba are currently sidelined due to injury while Nemanja Matic, Fred and Andreas Pereira have all flattered to deceive with their performances this term.
Recruiting Fernandes will not only inject more goals and creativity into their first-team but will also help them compete across all fronts in the coming months. All in all, bringing the Portuguese talent to Old Trafford this month could prove to be a wise move for the Mancunian giants as he has all the makings to be a grand success in English football.
