Premier League giants Manchester United secured progress into the fifth round of this season’s edition of the FA Cup after they dispatched lowly Tranmere Rovers by a whopping 6-0 scoreline. A plethora of United players were on the scoresheet tonight, in what was an utterly dominant display from the Red Devils. The Manchester club were in the ascendancy right from the off, and that was represented fairly well in the final result as well.
Here are the Manchester United players rated in their win over Tranmere Rovers.
Sergio Romero – 7
The veteran shot-stopper made a couple of decent saves in the early knockings of the game as the home side tried to make a quick impact. Wasn’t troubled on too many occasions either.
Diogo Dalot – 7
The youngster took his first-team opportunity pretty effectively tonight as he was in the right place at the right time to tuck in what was a truly special first-half goal for United.
Phil Jones – 7.5
The Manchester United defender hasn’t come to be known for his dependability in recent months, but that’s exactly what he produced today. Defended well and even popped up with a vital goal.
Harry Maguire – 7.5
The Englishman scored his first ever goal for United with a truly brilliant effort, and he defended well for most of the fixture as well. Was a dominant presence all through the ninety minutes though.
Victor Lindelof – 7
The centre-half looked far too comfortable on the night as the struggling Tranmere attackers weren’t able to pose the Red Devils any kind of attacking threat. Held his position well too.
Luke Shaw – 8
The full-back tried to impact the tie in multiple ways over the course of the first-half and constantly provided width with his overlapping runs. Worked hard off the ball and played some neat crosses.
Andreas Pereira – 6.5
The midfield star took a couple of neat touches in and around the centre circle but didn’t create too much in the Tranmere final third. Passed the ball around well and displayed composure.
Nemanja Matic – 7.5
The Serbian was a monster in the middle of the park for United as he controlled the tempo of the game right from the off. Worked hard out of possession and brought his teammates into the game.
Jesse Lingard – 7
The Englishman picked up a goal contribution after more than a year’s drought and looked dangerous for phases during the game as well. Needs to work on his final product though.
Anthony Martial – 6.5
The Frenchman was far from his best against the Merseyside outfit as he should’ve gotten on the scoresheet much sooner than he actually did. Needs to improve his positioning in the box.
Mason Greenwood – 7
The youngster could give Martial some tips about positioning inside the box, as he was in the right place on more than one occasion. Slotted the penalty home comfortably to secure progress to the next round.
Substitutes
Fred – 6.5
The Brazilian midfielder looked rather comfortable in possession and was never really troubled by the fatigued Tranmere attackers in the late stages of the tie.
Tahith Chong – 6
The youngster came on at half-time as Ole looked to see out the win while also providing the youngster with some much-needed experience. Won United the penalty as well.
Brandon Williams – 6.5
The full-back wasn’t able to produce too much in an attacking sense because the rest of the team were in cruise control by the time he came on. Defended well late on.
