According to the reports from the Mirror, Liverpool are linked with a move for Brescia’s midfielder Sandro Tonali. The 19-year-old helped the Italian side get promoted to the Serie A this season, and he has carried on with his excellent form in the Italian top flight.
Tonali has also managed to break into the national team, and he has three caps for Italy as well. The midfielder is being seen as a significant talent, and he has been compared with Italian legend Andrea Pirlo for his playing style. Pirlo broke onto the scene with Brescia. He then went on to play for some of the top Italian clubs like Juventus and AC Milan.
Juventus are still considered to be in front of the queue to sign Tonali, but Liverpool have also emerged as a possible destination for the 19-year-old. Brescia owner reportedly wants €50m for Tonali. Liverpool have kept track of the player for the past year as the Reds had contacted Brescia’s owner Massimo Cellino last year regarding the midfielder.
What is Tonali known for?
Tonali is a defensive midfielder by trade, but he can play in a box to box role as well. The midfielder is known for his ability to orchestrate play from deep areas. He is always willing to show up for the ball, and he can keep hold of possession even when he is under pressure from the opposition.
The Italian can unlock defences with his vision, and it is understandable why he has drawn parallels with Pirlo. Tonali is also known to put in a decent shift for his side as he is a hard worker off the ball. However, he might have to improve on his physical qualities a bit to thrive in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, Tonali is seen as someone who has a high ceiling of potential. The midfielder can turn out to be one of the best in his business in his position, and that is why he has already earned three national caps for his country at 19.
Should Klopp make a move for him?
Tonali will obviously take some time to adapt to the Premier League. He can be a good squad option for the Reds for the time being, and once he settles in, he can make the defensive midfield spot his own for years to come. His price might look a bit steep at this stage, but he could turn out to be a bargain if he manages to fulfil his potential. Hence, it makes sense for Liverpool to make a move for him somewhere in the future.
