Liverpool will play hosts to Manchester United at Anfield hoping to stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League table with a win on Sunday. The Reds will come into this clash on the back of a narrow 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Jurgen Klopp will stick with his preferred 4-3-3 formation and will be boosted by the availability of Joel Matip and Fabinho.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup Vs Manchester United
Defence
Alisson Becker will operate in goal for the Merseyside outfit after keeping six clean sheets in a row across all competitions. The last time he allowed a goal at the back was against Monterrey in the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup semi-final which is a remarkable achievement even for a goalkeeper of his high standards.
Joe Gomez will keep his place alongside Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of the Reds backline. Joel Matip should also be back for this game against the Red Devils, but he might have to settle for a place on the bench.
Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to start as the right-back as he looks to whip in some inviting crosses into the Man United penalty box. Andrew Robertson will try to do the same down the left flank. Both full-backs will once again be instructed to push high up the pitch so that they can create some decent goal-scoring chances for the Liverpool frontline.
Midfield
Klopp will have a real dilemma in his hands as he has to decide whether to bring back Fabinho to his first-team for this crucial encounter versus Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men. We think that the German manager might play it safe and opt for a midfield three of Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana with Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain providing cover on the bench.
Lallana helped rescue a point for his team in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford. He has also been in a rich vein of form over the past couple of weeks. Therefore, he deserves a first-team start in front of the Kop on Sunday.
Attack
The Liverpool front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are guaranteed starters this weekend. However, they need to find a way to be more ruthless in the final third as the talented trio was guilty of missing a plethora of chances versus Spurs in the previous gameweek.
Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi might be used as impact substitutes late in the game if Klopp decides to call upon their services.
