In his recent column for The Daily Mail, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy urged the Reds to acquire the services of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish when he wrote,
“Even though Liverpool are currently well-stocked for midfielders, what if Gini Wijnaldum doesn’t sign a new contract and James Milner gets to a certain age?
“Could Jack do the hard yards Jurgen Klopp demands? Yes. Would I have him ahead of Naby Keita for example? Yes.”
Grealish’s Impressive Season With The Villans Thus Far
Grealish has enjoyed a brilliant season with the Villans this season after performing at a high level for them in the Premier League thus far. Even though the English playmaker has endured his fair share of injuries, he has done remarkably well to put in a string of eye-catching displays under Dean Smith’s tutelage this term.
The 24-year-old has featured in 22 matches for the West Midlands outfit in this campaign, registering eight goals while providing six assists across all competitions. He has averaged 1.3 tackles, 2.2 shots, 2.7 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per game in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The Aston Villa youth product has represented England in the Under-21 level, scoring two goals in seven matches for them so far. However, he is yet to earn his first senior cap for Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions team.
What Are The English Talent’s Best Attributes?
Grealish is primarily a box to box midfielder who loves to go in for a tackle even though he is more renowned for his attacking prowess. He is a deceptively quick dribbler who can make some driving runs with the ball in the opposition half. The English midfielder also packs a lot of venom with his shots from long range. Furthermore, he is a chief playmaker of the current Villa side because of his keen eye to pick out a defence-splitting pass in the final third.
Should The Champions Of Europe Orchestrate A Move For Grealish?
Grealish has all the skillset required to be a grand success under a world-class manager like Jurgen Klopp at Merseyside. He ticks all the right boxes in terms of what the Liverpool boss demands from his players. So Klopp should consider listening to Danny Murphy’s suggestion by making a move for Grealish in the future.
With Adam Lallana’s contract at Anfield coming to an end next summer, maybe recruiting the Aston Villa captain could be a welcome move for the world champions as he will help them maintain their stranglehold in Europe as well as in domestic competitions.
