According to the reports from the Argus, Argentine heavyweights Boca Juniors are ready to accept Brighton’s compensation fee of £675,000 to cut short Alexis Mac Allister’s loan spell. The attacking midfielder moved to Brighton in January 2019, but it was already clear that he wouldn’t be able to play for them because of work permit issues. Hence, he was sent back to his club Argentinos Juniors in the last winter transfer market. Then, Mac Allister was shipped to Boca Juniors in the summer of 2019.
Mac Allister featured for Argentina’s national team last year. The Seagulls have now managed to arrange the work permit for the playmaker, and they are willing to get him in this January to bolster their squad. Sources say that talks are still ongoing.
The 21-year old has performed well for Boca Juniors this season, and he had impressed even for Argentinos Juniors earlier. Boca Juniors president Jorge Amor Ameal had earlier said, “He will keep playing until June.”
It seemed like the Argentine outfit were determined to keep their player until the end of the season. But Brighton could now get the playmaker back after they decided to offer Boca Juniors a compensation fee.
What is Mac Allister known for?
The Argentine international is of Scottish heritage, and many see him as the primary playmaker for Argentina in the coming years. Mac Allister is currently with Argentina under-23s at the Olympic qualifying tournament. He is being rated quite heavily in his home country, and that’s why he made his senior debut in August last year.
Mac Allister is known for his passing range and ability to open up opposition’s defence. His game awareness and talent to spread passes at will stand out. The 21-year-old prefers to play as a no. 10 but he has featured on the left and right flanks as well for his teams.
However, he isn’t blessed with too much pace. The midfielder showcases reasonable ball control, and he can wriggle out of tight spaces. He is also on set-piece duties for his sides and can pack a good punch with his right foot.
Right call from Potter to call him back?
Brighton have faced some bad results of late, and it is understandable why Potter is keen to add Mac Allister to his squad midway through the season. The player has been on the books of Brighton for a year now, but the Argentine coming in this January will be like a new signing for the club. The Seagulls should look to get this deal over the line as the club could be dragged into a relegation battle, and they would need some firepower to stay up.
