According to a recent report by The Telegraph, Premier League giants Chelsea are said to be considering moves for a plethora of top-level European strikers, as Frank Lampard looks to eradicate his team’s apparent inability to put the ball into the back of the net. The Blues’ search for a striker has been no secret, and Lampard himself has admitted multiple times over the last couple of months that they do need to make more than one attacking purchase in order to have any chance of sustaining in fourth place until the end of the season.
The report suggests that a loan move for Real Madrid’s Serbian international star Luka Jovic is currently not being considered by the backroom team at Stamford Bridge. Despite this, the club is aware that Jovic could be available on loan if a situation arises where they’re not able to sign anyone going into the second half of the campaign.
The Blues had already been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani and prolific AC Milan man Krzysztof Piatek this winter before talks of Jovic came up.
Why Do Chelsea Need To Sign Another Striker?
The injury picked up by Tammy Abraham earlier in the season came as a gutting reality check to Lampard and the team, and it’s a situation that they would’ve been hoping not to come up again this term. Despite this, the recent ankle injury picked up by Abraham could cause the gaffer further problems, once again highlighting the striking requirements at Stamford Bridge at this point.
Michy Batshuayi and Olivier Giroud form the Chelsea hero’s other options up-front, and neither of them has managed to provide any cover for the young Englishman. While Giroud’s departure away from West London is rather imminent, Batshuayi’s future remains up in the air. The Belgian has been given multiple opportunities to prove himself this season but has never really seized a single one of the chances, triggering further questions about his overall quality.
Why The Blues Must Avoid Signing Luka Jovic In January?
The talismanic Serbian international was acquired by La Liga giants Real Madrid on the back of a special season leading the Eintracht Frankfurt line all the way into the semifinal of the Europa League, where they lost to Chelsea on penalties. Despite making a big-money move, the youngster has struggled to have any sort of positive impact at the Santiago Bernabeu and is yet to nail down a place in Zidane’s first team as well.
Although he scored 36 goals in 75 appearances for his former Bundesliga employer, the 22-year-old has managed just a single goal from 20 appearances in Madrid so far and is yet to win over the hearts of Los Blancos’ faithful. The change of scenery from Germany to Spain was enough to see the youngster lose confidence, and bringing a player like that to England, and into the most competitive league in the entire world, could turn out to be a massive blunder.
