Leeds United hosted Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road, and they lost the Yorkshire derby by two goals to nil.
The Whites hogged possession in the first half and created some half chances. Bamford had the ball in the net from Klich’s pass around the 25th-minute mark, but the midfielder was ruled offside. The score at half time was 0-0.
The second half was more end to end, but both teams lacked the quality in the final third. Leeds United were applying some late pressure, but the Owls got a break in the end as Jacob Murphy scored in the 87th minute. Nuhiu then made it two for the away team in the stoppage time as the Whites had committed men forward in the end.
Here is how Bielsa’s men fared.
Kiko Casilla 3
Let down his team in the end by getting beaten by Jacob Murphy from a tight angle. Couldn’t have done much for the second. The Owls had two shots on target, and both went in.
Luke Ayling 5
Was unable to influence the game much in the attacking half and quite a few of his passes were getting blocked from the right. Not awful but wasn’t up to the standards while going forward. Tracked back when required.
Ben White 6
Did alright defensively and looked calm in possession. Had some tough moments in the second half but did his job for most parts.
Liam Cooper 6.5
Battled hard and swept up quite a few dangers in the second half. Misplaced a few passes in the last quarter of the game as he was often going long.
Barry Douglas 5
Like his fullback partner, wasn’t able to affect the game on the offensive front and failed to link up play with Harrison. Did his job defensively when he was called into action.
Kalvin Phillips 6
Won his 50-50 duels and was first to quite a few second balls. Wasn’t able to dictate play in the second half as he usually does as Wednesday didn’t allow to settle him on the ball.
Helder Costa 4
Some poor decision making from Costa whenever he got the ball in promising areas. His touch also let him down and was hardly able to affect the game from the right flank.
Stuart Dallas 4.5
Just doesn’t look natural in central midfield when the game gets stretched. Was getting caught out of position whenever there was a turnover from Wednesday. His mistake, in the end, allowed the second goal. Looked bright in the first half but faded as the game went on.
Mateusz Klich 5
Almost got lost in the second half as he wasn’t able to pick out his usual passes as the game turned out to be a frantic affair. Was steady with his passing but ineffective in terms of incisive passing.
Jack Harrison 5
Had a few good moments but apart from that Harrison frustrated with his poor touches. His final delivery was also below par and like most of his team-mates, failed to conjure anything meaningful especially in the latter stages of the game.
Patrick Bamford 5
Continues to lack the killer instinct in front of goal. Just takes an extra moment or extra touch which allows the opposition to close him down. Worked hard like always but left a lot to be desired in terms of sharpness in front of goal.
Substitutes
Ezgjan Alioski 5
Had a moment of miscommunication with Casilla but Alioski dealt with the danger well. Lacked quality as he delivered some hopeful crosses in the box from the left.
Pablo Hernandez 5.5
Played some decent passes but wasn’t able to get on the ball in dangerous areas
Jordan Stevens 5
Looked lively but lacked quality.
