Bayern Munich have consistently been linked with Manchester City’s winger Leroy Sane. The German international came close to moving away (The Mirror) in the summer, but an untimely injury against Liverpool in the Community Shield cut short that deal. Nevertheless, the reigning Bundesliga champions are expected to make a move in the summer with Sane refusing to sign a new contract with the Citizens.
Bayern CEO doesn’t rule out Sane move
Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has once again indicated that they would be interested in Sane in the summer.
He said, ”If we are still interested in principle, which I do not rule out, we will first talk to the club in order to create a friendly atmosphere of conversation.”
This is not the first time when the noise has been made from Bayern Munich’s camp regarding Sane’s future. Many are also of the opinion that moving to Munich would also help him to establish himself in the German national team. As things stand, we believe that City are fighting a losing battle to keep him in the long run.
The good news for the club is that the winger has returned to full training after his injury horror. City are more or less out of the Premier League race, but a player like Sane can make an impact at the biggest of stages like the Champions League. If City fails to win the Champions League along with the Premier League, many will class their season as a failure even though they could end up winning the other two domestic trophies like the League Cup and the FA Cup.
How Sane has been missed so far?
City has missed Sane as the Premier League champions have sometimes failed to open up stubborn defences. The winger with his pace, intensity and directness would make a significant difference in the side. Raheem Sterling has also been a bit out of form, but there has been no natural replacement for him with Sane being injured.
Can Guardiola keep him?
With the German ace coming back to full fitness, he should be keen to make up for the lost time he has had this season. Maybe who knows, a Champions League triumph and if the winger goes on to play a significant part in that, things could change, and the 24-year-old might go on to sign a new contract. However, it seems like Bayern Munich are unlikely to move away from his trails, and it would be an uphill task to keep him beyond this season.
