According to a recent report by AS (cited by The Daily Express), Arsenal are considering making an offer for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez. It is believed that the Gunners have identified the Mexican international as an ideal replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he leaves to join Barcelona before the end of this month (via AS).
The Sun had also suggested on Sunday that Jimenez could be one of the strikers who could replace Aubameyang at North London. The Wolves centre-forward has enjoyed another outstanding season at the Molineux Stadium and is currently preparing himself to face the Premier League leaders Liverpool on Thursday night.
Jimenez’s Stellar Spell At The Molineux
The 29-year-old has put in a string of match-winning displays for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, and his outstanding productivity in front of goal has helped the West Midlands club establish themselves in the top half of the league table.
Jimenez has scored 19 goals and provided nine assists in 36 matches for Wolves this term in all competitions. He has averaged 3.3 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per game for the English outfit in this campaign (stats via whoscored).
What Will The Mexican Forward Add To Arteta’s Team?
Jimenez is a complete centre-forward who is always willing to go the extra mile for the benefit of his team. He excels at holding the ball up and getting others involved in the final third. The Mexican international is also a consistent goal-scorer and has proven himself to be a prolific striker in the Premier League.
Arsenal can benefit a lot from acquiring a quality frontman like Jimenez. At the same time, the Gunners must do everything in their power to keep hold of Aubameyang at least until the end of this campaign.
There is no doubt that Jimenez will add a lot of quality to Mikel Arteta’s frontline and his creativity will also help get the best out of underperforming stars such as Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette. The Mexican international will also be a perfect mentor to Gabriel Martinelli as he could teach the Arsenal youngster a thing or two on how to improve his game as a centre-forward.
