Rangers took on Ross County at Ibrox hoping to take full three points after their disappointing performance against Hearts. The Gers managed to get the job done as they secured a comfortable 2-0 win.
The home team lacked the quality to open up Ross County’s defence in the first 45. However, just before half time, Jermain Defoe scored almost out of nothing to put the Gers one-nil up. The goal was exceedingly well taken as he kept two defenders at bay and got away his shot on the turn.
Rangers added comfort to their lead just after half time as Defoe played a slick backheel in Arfield’s path who converted with confidence. Ross County never really threatened much and Rangers held on to a 2-0 win.
Here is how Gerrard’s men fared on the night.
Allan McGregor 6
Wasn’t tested at all in goal as the away side failed to have a shot on target.
Nikola Katic 7
Was dominant in the air and dealt with whatever dangers that came his way.
Connor Goldson 6.5
Made a few rash fouls, but apart from that was rock solid at the back and played his part in keeping the cleansheet.
Borna Barisic 6.5
Continues to provide an out ball with his runs from the left. Wasn’t at his influential best but looked decent and put in a good shift.
Matt Polster 7
The American defender showed great composure and looked defensively solid. Made a few good runs. Could have been better while delivering crosses. Nevertheless, he took his chance well after he got a rare start in the league.
Steven Davis 6
Not at his very best but did the basics right and got the job done. However, Gerrard would probably want to see him creating more.
Glen Kamara 6
Had a mixed bag of a game. Went past defenders on quite a few occasions with his clever touches. Used his physicality well. However, he failed to pick the right pass some times.
Scott Arfield 8
Played his part in the opening goal as he made a nuisance of himself in the box and won the header which was dispatched by Defoe. Then made a clever run and got on the score sheet with a well-taken goal. Showed impressive endeavour and was almost everywhere on the pitch.
Ryan Kent 6.5
Never really threatened much but did the basics right. Steady but unspectacular.
Sheyi Ojo 7
Has been ignored in the past few months but played a decent role in Rangers’ win today. Looked lively and was willing to take his man on. Linked up play well.
Jermain Defoe 9
Faced some criticism after the last game but bounced back with a man of the match performance as he produced two moments of magic. The first goal was extremely well taken by the veteran. Then assisted the second with a clever backheel to Arfield. Rangers failed to involve him in the game much, but the Englishman made his chances count. Had to go off with an injury which should be worrying.
