According to a recent report by The Birmingham Mail, Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers have been a part of quite a few January transfer rumours, including Royal Antwerp centre-half Aurelio Buta. It has also been claimed in a report by The Sun, that Wolves are also keen on acquiring the services of SC Freiburg centre-half Robin Koch.
While the need for defensive cover has been around at the Molineux for a while now, their current situation has put them in a precarious position. With French star Willy Boly looking at a long spell out injured on the sidelines, it would make sense for Nuno’s side to invest in a couple of quality centre-halves so that they could come good in the future as well.
How Has Wolves’ Season Gone So Far This Year?
Although Nuno’s men didn’t start the campaign off on the best note, somewhere along the way, they were able to pull it back into control. Since then, they’ve gone on to achieve massive points against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, while they did the impossible by beating champions Manchester City along the way as well.
They are currently at 7th place on the league table and sit just six points off Chelsea in 4th place. They have drawn eight out of their 14 league matches so far this season – the highest out of all the teams in the league. This inability to finish fixtures off has caused them serious issues over the course of the campaign, with Willy Boly’s absence having a serious impact on the situation.
Here Are The Two Defensive Signings That Wolves Must Make In January:
Robin Koch
The 23-year-old German international has been a sensation in the Bundesliga this season, having played each and every minute of his team’s league campaign so far. His excellent displays were rewarded with a national team cap earlier in the campaign as well. The German has the physical authority that made Boly such an important presence in the heart of the defence and would be a very impressive signing for Wolves if they can get him through the door.
Aurelia Buta
This Portuguese right-back currently plays for Royal Antwerp in the Belgian Jupiler League but is said to have impressed the Wolves chiefs heavily. The speedster is still only 22-years-old, and the likes of Newcastle United and Watford are also said to be keeping close tabs on the youngster’s progress. Despite Matt Doherty’s presence, Nuno has been in the market for an equally exciting full-back, and Buta might be the right way to go for a youthful side like Wolves.
