Why Liverpool Should Look To Make A Move For This £20m Rated Ace To Solve Their Defensive Crisis?

Everything seems to be hunky-dory at the moment with Liverpool as the club currently occupies the top spot in the Premier League, and they also made it to the Champions League group stages without much fuss in the end. The club has even gone on to extend Jurgen Klopp’s stay for another two years which would see the German boss stay until 2024.

Why Liverpool might need a centre back?

However, there is one issue which might be troubling the team management at the moment. Dejan Loren is the latest defender to join the treatment table, and there seems to be no comeback date for his return. Joel Matip is already nursing a knee problem, and he is unlikely to play anymore this year. Fabinho who played as a centre back on a few occasions last season is also out with an ankle injury. Hence, Klopp only has Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk as the two outright centre back options at the moment.

Ben White: A solution for Liverpool

The Reds should look to add more depth at the back in January to cope with fixture congestion, and one player they should look to do a deal for is Brighton and Hove Albion’s Ben White. The English defender is currently on a season-long loan with Leeds United.

Graham Potter clearly indicated earlier that he is happy that White is getting to play at Elland Road regularly. Still, Liverpool should look to put in a cheeky bid of somewhere around £20-25m to check Brighton’s resolve. Liverpool had been linked with White in the past month or so, and Manchester United are another team said to be in the mix. One report mentioned that the centre back is being rated at around £20m.

White has all the attributes to be a top defender at the highest level. The Premier League will indeed be a big step up for him from the Championship, but the defender has shown impressive signs so far. He is a brilliant reader of the game and just like Van Dijk; he often is at the right place at the right time. The youngster’s on the ball qualities are also worth mentioning.

The defender’s price tag could quickly rise over £30-40m in one or two seasons, and the Reds should be all over him in January. Dejan Lovren has done well so far this campaign, but he is already 30, and Liverpool would need a long term replacement for the Croatian. White will be a good fit in the current Liverpool lineup and the temptation to play alongside one of the best defenders and at one of the best club could turn White’s head even though he has enjoyed a good spell at Elland Road so far.
