Dean Smith’s Aston Villa side succumbed to yet another league defeat as they were outclassed 4-1 by 2nd placed Leicester City on the night. Brendan Rodgers’ men were the dominant force in the fixture right from the off, and they secured their eighth straight league victory thanks to goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, Jonny Evans, and a double by top scorer Jamie Vardy. The Foxes now find themselves a whole 14 points clear of Manchester United in fifth place, effectively guaranteeing them a place in the Champions League next season.
Here Are The Leicester City Player Ratings:
Kasper Schmeichel – 6.5
The veteran shot-stopper didn’t have too much to do on the night as Aston Villa were extremely wasteful with all the chances that they got. Made a couple of routine saves though.
Ricardo Pereira – 8
The full-back made multiple bombarding runs down the flank as he ensured the Villans’ left-back wasn’t given a moment’s peace. He played some excellent crosses into the box too.
Jonny Evans – 7
The Englishman popped up when it mattered and scored one of the Foxes’ goals on the night. He played out some neat passes from the back as well. Wasn’t overly troubled in the first half.
Caglar Soyunçu – 7
The youngster had a clear opportunity to further Leicester’s lead in the second half but was unable to keep his header away from Tom Heaton. Held his position effectively and defended well.
Ben Chilwell – 6.5
The Englishman wasn’t at his best today as he didn’t have his usual impact going forward. He did work his socks off in the first half though and was deservedly given a rest later on in the second.
Wilfred Ndidi – 7.5
The midfield destroyer was at the top of his game today as he orchestrated the tempo of the fixture right from the off. He helped out in defence and made a couple of neat forward passes as well.
Dennis Praet – 7.5
The winger was given a rare start against Aston Villa, and he ensured that he made a solid impression. Linked up superbly with Pereira for most of the night, and played some neat passes as well.
Youri Tielemans – 7
The Belgian had a very influential first-half but slowly began to drift away from the game. Although he had some key touches along the way, his impact on the tie was limited in the second half.
James Maddison – 7
Like his Belgian midfield partner, the Englishman was merely a spectator during phases in the second half. Played a neat ball in for Jonny Evans to head home though.
Kelechi Iheanacho – 7.5
The youngster used his pace superbly and linked up well with Chilwell and Maddison down the left side. He took his goal extremely well and picked up an impressive assist on the night as well.
Jamie Vardy – 9
The Vardy party continued as the league top scorer added another two more to his tally for the campaign. He showed excellent composure in front of goal and could’ve had a couple more on the night as well.
