According to The Northern Echo, Tottenham Hotspur scouts have been able to convince Jose Mourinho to make a move for Jarrod Bowen in the upcoming January transfer window. The Hull City winger has raised a lot of eyebrows with his performances this season. However, Spurs may have to fork out somewhere around £20m in order to attain the services of Bowen next month.
Bowen’s performances in the Championship
Bowen has impressed the onlookers this season with his productivity in front of goal. Having already netted 16 goals in just 22 matches, he is currently the joint topscorer in the Championship alongside Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic while his tally of three assists means he is the joint-most productive player in the English second division.
Bowen’s exploits in front of goal have helped Hull City stay away from the relegation scrap, with the winger being involved in more than 50% of the club’s 34 goals so far this season. His current contract at Hull expires in 2020 meaning the Tigers would have to sell him to the highest bidder when the transfer window reopens in January or risk losing him for free next summer.
What can he bring to the table?
Bowen’s scoring statistics in front of goal is enough to highlight his productivity. Besides that, the 22-year-old is known for his pace and tenacity that makes him a genuine threat on the counter. His excellent close control allows him to drift past defenders and nestle through tight spaces – making it difficult for the opposition to mark him tightly in and around the final third.
Indeed, Bowen has averaged two successful dribbles per game while his tally of almost four attempts on target is among the best in the league.

Is Bowen a viable target for Spurs?
Bowen is undoubtedly a risky target for Tottenham Hotspur for multiple reasons. The winger hasn’t had much experience at the highest level of football, which could make it difficult for him to integrate into the fast-paced nature of the Premier League. And given the soaring expectations of the Spurs fans, he might struggle to make an impact in north London.
That being said, Bowen is someone, who can surely impress if he can suit himself to Mourinho’s tactics. He also needs time, which he should properly receive as Mourinho will likely ease him into his first-team plans.
Hence, the addition of this Hull City star, especially for a fee of just £20m could be a smart piece of investment for Tottenham as it will provide more depth in the attacking department. He is definitely worth the gamble for the Lilywhites.
