According to the reports from the Telegraph, Leeds United are in a race with Sheffield Wednesday, Swansea City, Preston and Huddersfield to sign Liverpool’s talented youngster Rhian Brewster. The Whites have been linked with Brewster in the past month or so but now it is being said that Swansea City have the edge over the signing of the striker.

The reason for this is Steve Cooper. The current Swansea boss had worked with Brewster before when he guided England’s u-17 team towards World Cup triumph in India. Under Cooper, Brewster played a stellar role as he finished the tournament as the top scorer and went on to win the Golden Boot title.

Hence, Cooper’s previous working relationship is giving Swansea an edge over other rivals, including Leeds United. The Whites are in a good position to qualify through the automatic promotion spots, but they know that they would need to carry on with the excellent work especially after what happened in the second half of last season.

Brewster has made sporadic appearances for the Reds in Cup games, but Jurgen Klopp is now willing to send him away on loan where he can play regularly. Some Premier League clubs are also said to be interested with the likes of Newcastle United and Crystal Palace having an interest in the striker. However, Klopp would prefer him to move to Championship where he would have more chances of playing regularly.

Why might Liverpool not send Brewster on loan to Leeds?

If playing regularly is the criteria then we believe that the Reds could be sceptical about sending him to Elland Road. Eddie Nketiah, the highly promising Arsenal youngster, is still chasing his first start in the Championship. Patrick Bamford is firmly ahead in the pecking order under Bielsa’s eyes, and the former Middlesbrough man is going through a rich vein of form.

We think that the Whites will only go for another striker if they go on to lose Nketiah as Arsenal does have an option to recall the 20-year-old forward. Brewster will be in a similar mould as Nketiah as he is quick, agile and can run at defences. He is also known to be a hard worker off the ball, and Brewster can score all kind of goals.

What now for Bielsa?

The Liverpool youngster would be a good signing for the Whites as he is highly rated. But then again, Bielsa is unlikely to give anyone much of a chance until and unless they get used to the system properly. With Swansea now said to be leading the race, the Whites need to hope that Arsenal allows Nketiah to continue with his loan spell until the end of the season.
