Celtic travelled to Dingwall to take on Ross County in the Premiership hoping to keep their winning run going. That is precisely what they did as they secured a 4-1 win to put pressure right back on Rangers in the title race.
Celtic were quick off the blocks, and they dominated possession. Lewis Morgan was brought down in the penalty box, and Ryan Christie converted from the spot in the 10th minute albeit Baxter saved his initial attempt. Ross County equalised with their first effort as Stewart headed home from a free-kick. Christie restored Celtic’s advantage in the 38th minute as he scored with a simple finish after Ajer found him with a defence-splitting pass.
Callum McGregor came close to scoring from outside the box just before the hour mark, but his shot only managed to hit the post. Tom Rogic added comfort to Celtic’s lead as he scored in the 67th minute to make it 3-1. Johnston came off the bench to make it four.
Here is how Lennon’s men fared
Fraser Forster 6
Another game where he was just a spectator. Maybe could have done better for the goal but that would be nitpicking his performance. Decent with his distribution.
Greg Taylor 7
Looked good in the attacking front and made a good case for going up in the pecking order after today’s performance. Linked up play well from the left and set up Celtic’s fourth goal.
Christopher Jullien 7
Read the dangers well before they could develop and was physically strong and dominant. Always looks a major threat while attacking set-pieces.
Kristoffer Ajer 8
Played with confidence and assisted Celtic’s second goal which bypassed the whole Ross County defence. Just looks at ease with the ball at his feet and can easily play as a midfielder in games like this. Wasn’t tested much defensively and but did his job well when called into action.
Jeremie Frimpong 6
Conceded the free-kick through which Ross County equalised. Wasn’t able to influence the game much with his usual attacking display.
Scott Brown 6.5
Kept the ball moving and hardly broke a sweat during the game. A steady and unspectacular display from the captain.
Callum McGregor 8
Came close to scoring but was denied by the post. Always tried to move the ball forward and linked up play well. Always tried to turn over possession quickly and played with a high tempo for most of the game.
James Forrest 6
Worked hard but struggled to get involved in the action. Took his man on when needed but his final delivery could have been better.
Tom Rogic 7
Played with confidence and kept the ball moving from one end to another. Took his goal well.
Ryan Christie 8.5
Kept the composure to score from a rebound after he missed the spot-kick. Then finished the second without much fuss. Could have had a hattrick as well as he came close to scoring from a free-kick. Another performance which was full of energy from the Scotsman.
Lewis Morgan 6.5
Got another chance to lead the line and did a decent job. Won the penalty by getting to the ball first and then assisted Rogic’s goal. Could have been better when he got the ball.
Substitutes
Michael Johnston 7
Dribbled past the defence and scored with a good finish. Definitely looks sharp and shouldn’t be too far away from getting a start.
Leigh Griffiths N/A
Wasn’t involved too much in the game after coming on
Nir Bitton N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
