According to a recent report by talkSPORT, Manchester United are weighing up a £17m offer to secure the signature of Barcelona defensive ace Jean-Clair Todibo during the winter transfer window. The same source has also claimed that the Red Devils will face stiff competition from Everton, Southampton and Watford in pursuit of the La Liga centre-half in January.

Todibo’s Growing Frustrations At The Nou Camp This Season

The talented teenager has hardly been a part of Ernesto Valverde’s first-team and has only made a handful of sporadic appearances for Barca this season. He has featured in three matches for the Spanish champions this term, playing a total of 167 minutes across all competitions. Surprisingly, the Catalan outfit has won all three matches that Todibo has been a part of during this campaign.

The 19-year-old has found first-team opportunities hard to come by as he has fallen behind the likes of Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti in the Nou Camp pecking order. There is no doubt that the French prospect has the potential to be a top-class centre-back if he can prove his worth at the highest level.

Todibo needs to ensure regular game time in the coming years if he wants to continue improving his overall game with each season. It is believed that the La Liga youngster is unsure about his future but is still happy with his life at Catalonia despite receiving limited playing time this season (via Sport).

What Will The Barca Whizkid Bring To The Theatre Of Dreams?

Todibo is a dominant presence in the air due to his strong frame and incredible upper body strength. He can win most of his aerial duels with the opposition and can be a dependable figure at the back. However, the French starlet lacks experience of playing regular football at the top level, so there are some concerns over whether he would be able to prove his worth in the Premier League.

Man United are in dire need of bringing in some defensive reinforcements when the transfer window reopens next month. Both Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire have flattered to deceive with their performances against the lesser teams this season. Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have featured sporadically in the cup competitions, but it is clear that they need more quality in their backline.

Recruiting Todibo will undeniably improve Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad depth, but he won’t be able to fix their mounting defensive problems at the back.
