Dean Smith’s Aston Villa side handed Manchester United another setback after they played out an exciting 2-2 draw at Old Trafford. Despite the Villans’ dominance for most of the game, United did have chances to score the winner, with Anthony Martial even missing the target from around two yards out. Jack Grealish gave his team the lead in the 11th minute. However, the home team equalised via an own goal from Tom Heaton just before half-time before going on to take the lead in the second half via Victor Lindelof’s goal. However, Villa scored the leveller just two minutes through Tyrone Mings’ goal and managed to hold on to share the spoils with Man United.
Here Are The Manchester United Player Ratings:
David De Gea – 6
Although Aston Villa dominated proceedings over the course of the match, the Spanish keeper didn’t have too much to do in terms of stopping shots on target.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6.5
He was defensively sound and did well getting forward as well. The youngster does need to work on his final delivery into the box if he wants to become one of the best.
Victor Lindelof – 7
The centre-half positioned himself well from set-pieces, but was given a proper run-around by the Villa attackers. He maintained his cool whenever required and popped up with a crucial goal as well.
Harry Maguire – 6
The big Englishman was United’s first out-ball from defence, and he stepped up whenever possible and moved it forward well. Was troubled by the Villans’ pace but maintained his head.
Brandon Williams – 5.5
Didn’t offer the same amount of attacking threat that he did against Sheffield United last weekend, but defended well. He was caught out for Tyrone Mings’ equaliser and was rightly substituted.
Andreas Pereira – 6
Played a gorgeous ball to Rashford in the first half, on the way to United’s first goal. He came in and out of the game in the second half, but wasn’t able to make an impact.
Fred – 5
Struggled to create anything meaning going forward, but kept the ball moving with quick passes in midfield. He had a couple of shots from distance which ended up in the second tier.
Dan James – 6.5
The speedster was a decent attacking outlet for the Red Devils in the first half, but as Villa began to take control, he started to fade away from the fixture.
Juan Mata – 4
The Spaniard looks like a shadow of his former self – often seen misplacing passes and mistiming runs. He linked up with Rashford well on a couple of times in the first half.
Marcus Rashford – 6
He did well to grab the goal, but it was unfortunately credited as a Tom Heaton own goal. Despite obvious signs of quality, he wasn’t able to influence the match quite as much as he would’ve liked.
Anthony Martial – 5
Struggled to come into the game in the second half as United put up another lacklustre performance. He held the ball up on a few occasions but missed an absolute sitter late on.
Substitutes
Jesse Lingard – 4
Came on and offered next to nothing as usual.
Luke Shaw – NA
Didn’t have the time to make an impact.
Mason Greenwood – NA
Didn’t have the time to make an impact.
