Lennon Confirms Club In Talk For This 19 Time International Striker: What Will He Offer To Celtic?

Celtic have been linked with a move for  Slovenian striker Andraz Sporar in the past few weeks. Now, Neil Lennon went on to confirm (Daily Record) that the club has been in talks with him and indicated that the Sporar is one of several options that they are talking to at the moment.

Two important men indicate Celtic are in talks for Sporar

The Celtic boss recently said, ”There were talks I believe yesterday (Monday), but he is one of a number of options that we are talking to at the minute. There is no further progress on that one.”

Slovan Bratislava’s chief Ivan Kmotrik also indicated not too long ago that Celtic are pursuing the striker aggressively. Kmotrik had said, ”There are many people interested in Andraz and Celtic is the most aggressive yet. We have a meeting with the representatives of this club right now, and we’ll see what happens. So far, nothing is clear. We still don’t have an offer we would like to accept. We will not sell him cheaply, and we will not release him for two or three million euros.”

It is clear now that the latest links of Sporar aren’t just bogus as two important men in the deal have commented about it. With the January window still being a few days away, Celtic will hope that they can soon get this deal over the line. Sporar is also experienced at the national level as he has represented Slovenia 19 times.

It is clear that Lennon wants to bring in a new striker in the winter transfer period to support Odsonne Edouard. Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Issouf Bayo have failed to make any impact this season, and the Hoops are relying heavily on Edouard to lead their line.

What can Sporar offer?

He currently has 20 goals and five assists in all competitions for Slovan Bratislava this season. The striker bagged five goals and two assists in the six Europa League games. Sporar is 25, so he is in the prime of his career. Sporar is known for his sublime finishing skills and pace. Celtic need options who will hit the ground running straight away and Sporar seems to be a good fit. The Slovenian is known for making runs between the channels and given Celtic’s impressive playmakers; he should thrive at Parkhead.

It remains to be seen though whether Sporar would be happy to play second fiddle to Edouard. He is currently the main man for Bratislava; hence we believe that he might be a bit reluctant to move. Nevertheless, Celtic should look to get this deal done to add the much-needed depth and quality upfront.
