‘Klopp Will Be Keen’ Ex Leeds United Man Believes Liverpool Will Send Ace To Elland Road: Why It Might Not Happen?

Rhian Brewster’s name has once again been linked with Leeds United. The Liverpool youngster could move away in January in search of first-team football, and quite a few teams in the Championship have been alerted by that including Leeds United.

Whelan’s view on Brewster signing

Former United striker and BBC commentator Noel Whelan recently revealed that Klopp would be keen to send Brewster to Elland Road because of Bielsa’s footballing philosophies. Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said, ”There is obviously interest from Leeds in Brewster, and I’m sure there are a queue of clubs wanting to take him. But Leeds have a good chance, definitely.”

“A huge thing in Leeds’ favour is that Marcelo Bielsa is a great coach and Leeds play in a similar way to Liverpool – build out from the back, press from the front, high energy, smooth passing combinations and an aggressive playing style. Klopp will be keen for Brewster to join Leeds and learn under Bielsa.”

Why might Liverpool be sceptical about sending him at Elland Road?

What Whelan states is definitely right as Brewster can develop immensely by playing under someone like Bielsa. Moreover, Leeds United and Liverpool’s styles of pressing from the top and other footballing philosophies align well. However, it can well come down to how much game time the Whites can offer, and after looking at Eddie Nketiah’s situation, the Reds might be sceptical about sending Brewster to Elland Road.

Brewster has so far played in various cup competitions for Liverpool and has found it hard to break into their senior team. What Whelan states is true, but Liverpool might feel that if he is only going to Elland Road just to train, then he very well might stick with training with Liverpool’s first team.

Brewster needs to take the next big step after his performances at the various youth level. Hence, for his game to develop further, playing regularly would be more important than any training. Therefore we believe that the Whites will need to offer Brewster some game time assurance if they want to lure the Liverpool youngster. Nketiah is yet to start a game in the Championship this season, and that doesn’t bode well for any other striker looking to join Leeds United as Bielsa clearly prefers Patrick Bamford as his main striker.

Brewster will be a decent addition as he seems to have all the attributes to his game. He likes to keep the defenders occupied by making the runs into the channels. We believe that Leeds United are only likely to go for him if Nketiah departs from the club, but even then, Liverpool might think twice about sending him after seeing Nketiah’s struggles.
