According to reports from Spanish media outlet AS, the future of French star Kylian Mbappe is still in the air as the player has still not responded to Paris Saint Germain’s approach towards a new deal. PSG are keen on offering him a new contract, but Mbappe seems to be playing the waiting game with Real Madrid lurking around the corner to sign him in the summer of 2020 (via AS).
Mbappe’s understandable reluctance to sign a new deal with PSG
The striker still has his contract at the club until 2022, so he can afford to wait until the summer. Reports mention that Mbappe’s intentions may not be revealed until the end of this season. It is being said that he currently wants to focus on just the playing side and his agent is yet to reply to a new contract approach.
PSG are still looking to win the holy grail of football which is the UEFA Champions League. Another failure this season could see them lose some of their star players in the future. Real Madrid have been heavily linked with Mbappe for quite some time now, and it is not surprising to see the player not being keen to sign a new deal.
Real Madrid going for Mbappe: Does it makes sense?
We believe that Real Madrid’s interest in Mbappe next season could really depend on how they perform this season. The Galacticos made significant changes to their squad this summer, and they are neck in neck with Barcelona in the title race. There is no doubt that Mbappe would cost a fortune even if he doesn’t extend his contract with PSG so Los Blancos will have to think twice before going in for him.
Madrid have two young and breathtaking wingers in Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior, and if they show ominous signs this season, then we believe that the club shouldn’t look to shell out a potential world-record fee to sign Mbappe in the summer. However, if there is one club in football who are capable of signing Mbappe for such ridiculous money, then that club is Real Madrid. Hence, the Galacticos might go bonkers next season by signing the French World Cup winner if the club fails to win a major title this season.
The fact that Mbappe is still young makes him a dream acquisition for the Spanish giants. Afterall they signed Ronaldo for £80m and even after a decade they sold him for €100m. Hence, we never know how the football transfer market might behave in a few years, and Madrid could very well end up going after Mbappe in the summer of 2020 if Zidane’s men fail to deliver something meaningful in this campaign.
