Leeds United continued with their juggernaut as they secured a seventh straight win in the Championship after securing a 2-0 win over Hull City at Elland Road.
The Whites looked the better side in the first half, but they didn’t create many clear cut chances. The Tigers didn’t offer much while going forward and United looked like the only team who could score. The score at half time was 0-0.
Hull City started well in the second 45, but it was Leeds United who took the lead in the 73rd minute through an own goal from Jordy De Wijs after he scored past his keeper from Helder Costa’s cross. Alioski then scored coming off the bench as he slotted in a rebound which struck the post. That goal allowed the game to finish nervelessly and Bielsa’s men secured another win. Here is how they fared.
Kiko Casilla 8
Didn’t have much to do for most parts of the game but how he delivered when called into the action. His class save before the second goal from Alioski shows the narrow margins of Championship football.
Luke Ayling 7.5
Nothing much went past him, and he kept it tight defensively. Provided his usual endeavour from the right and helped his side in attack whenever he got the opportunity to go up.
Ben White 7
Kept Tom Eaves quiet and always stuck to his task. Was troubled on a few occasions but he was able to recover quickly to keep things under control as the Whites grabbed their fourth clean sheet in a row.
Gaetano Berardi 7
Started slowly but settled as the game went on. Read the dangers well and made a few crucial blocks and interceptions to keep his side in command.
Stuart Dallas 7.5
Had the job of keeping Jarrod Bowen in control and the versatile fullback did precisely that. Always seemed a step ahead of his attacker and read the game well, which allowed him to make a good number of blocks and interceptions.
Kalvin Phillips 6.5
Misplaced a few passes but did his job on the defensive front as he mopped up quite a few attacks. Assuring presence in midfield more often than not.
Mateusz Klich 6
Not the best of games for Klich but not too bad either. Linked up play well but could have been more incisive with his passing.
Helder Costa 5
Played a big part in the first goal where he used his pace well. Looked effective from the start as he tested the defence with his driving runs. However, his final pass once he was inside the Hull box left so much to be desired.
Pablo Hernandez 6
Wasn’t at his productive best but linked up play well from time to time. Looked jaded as the game went on. Got into some good positions but wasn’t able to create too many telling moments. Created one moment of magic though, as it was his delightful through ball that led to Costa taking a shot which resulted in the first goal.
Jack Harrison 7
Delivered some dangerous crosses from the left where his team-mates could have done better. Looked sharp with his touch and movement and always looked a threat down the left.
Patrick Bamford 7
Kept the opposition defenders on edge with his usual runs and intelligent movement. Held up play well when required. Came close to scoring but thankfully Alioski was there to tuck in the rebound.
Ezgjan Alioski 8
Showed good energy after coming on and scored the goal, which allowed the game to end comfortably.
Pascal Struijk N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
