According to a recent report by The Express, Premier League giants Chelsea are said to have drawn up an eight-man transfer shortlist, on the back of their motivating favourable appeal verdict. The Blues were initially issued a two-window transfer ban, but after the case was taken up by the Court Of Arbitration For Sport, and they were able to cut it down to just one window.
Considering that the Blues already served a one-window ban in the summer, their right to sign players has been returned ahead of what promises to be an exciting winter for Chelsea fans. The report suggests that the Blues have recognised eight players that they want to bring to Stamford Bridge – Ben Chilwell, Wilfried Zaha, Timo Werner, Jadon Sancho, Moussa Dembele, Nathan Ake, Fedor Chalov and lastly, Hakim Ziyech.
What Positions Do Chelsea Need Reinforcements In?
The Blues’ most recent defeat at the hands of Everton showcased all the different fragilities that this young Chelsea team still possesses. Although the academy graduates have stepped up to the plate and delivered to a certain extent, the Blues will have to buy very efficiently, if they hope to finish in the top four at the end of the campaign.
Defensively, the Blues have looked quite weak in some of the tougher encounters. Although they possess strong centre-halves, the need for a top left-back remains. Moreover, the fact that players like Willian, Pedro and Olivier Giroud are on the wrong side of their thirties will also be a worry for Lampard. Ideally, Chelsea will have to sign a left-back, a winger and a proper back-up striker to make this a more complete squad.
Here Are The Three Players That Chelsea Should Target:
Fedor Chalov
The 21-year-old Russian international is a graduate of the CSKA Moscow academy and has been nothing short of a sensation since breaking into the scene just a couple of years ago. He is a tall and industrious striker, who isn’t afraid to use his strength and physique for the benefit of the team. Adept at winning headers, the youngster’s skill-set would be perfect for the fast-paced nature of Premier League football. The fact that he’s still only 21 means that the Blues will be able to leave him as the second choice until he proves himself.
Ben Chilwell
The Englishman has arguably been Leicester City’s best player throughout the campaign so far, and signing him would put an immediate stop to all of Chelsea’s defensive fragilities on the left flank. Although Azpilicueta hasn’t done a bad job, the fact that he’s on the wrong side of the pitch has caused issues. Chilwell’s addition would be absolutely monstrous for the Blues, as he could form a special relationship with Christian Pulisic down the flank.
Jadon Sancho
Another player that could be brought in to keep up with the trend that the club seems to be following, Sancho is one of the most prodigious attackers that the great country of England has produced. His exploits with the Dortmund side have earned him superstar status in the footballing world, and signing a player of that magnitude would only make this deadly Chelsea attack even better.
