Chelsea Midfield Ace Set To Return From Injury In January: Huge Boost For The Pensioners?

According to a recent report by The Daily Mail, Chelsea are optimistic that Ruben Loftus-Cheek will be prepared to return to action in January after his lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an Achilles rupture. It is believed that the impact of the English midfielder’s return will also affect Frank Lampard’s transfer plans for the winter transfer window (via The Daily Mail).

Loftus-Cheek’s Excellent Form Prior To His Serious Injury Last Season

The 23-year-old ruptured his Achilles back in May during a charity match against New England Revolution. The London-born talent showed glimpses of his potential for the Pensioners last season when he put in several match-winning displays under Maurizio Sarri’s stewardship.

Loftus-Cheek had featured in 40 matches for his hometown club in the previous campaign, scoring ten goals while providing five assists across all competitions. He had averaged 1.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per game in the Premier League in the last term (stats via whoscored).

The former Crystal Palace playmaker has also earned ten international caps for the England national team but is yet to net his first goal for his country.

What Will The English Sensation Add To Lampard’s Side?

Loftus-Cheek is a powerful runner with the ball and can complete some dangerous dribbles from midfield. When given enough time and space by the opposition, he is capable of finding the back of the net from long range. Furthermore, the Three Lions rising star also has the vision to play a defence-splitting pass in the final third.

Lampard has already shown that he can get the best of his young players since his appointment last summer. The likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Christian Pulisic have all improved under the Chelsea legend’s tutelage. So we can expect Loftus-Cheek to go through a similar development process in the coming months.

Loftus-Cheek Set To Return From Injury Next Month: Huge Boost For Lampard?

Having a presence like Loftus-Cheek available will undoubtedly give Chelsea’s top 4 hopes a big boost heading into the new year. He is an exceptionally talented footballer who is not afraid to deliver when the pressure is on his shoulders. However, there are some concerns over whether he will be able to stay fit in the second half of this campaign as he has had his fair share of injury problems in recent years.
