Chelsea Linked With A Move For Star Premier League Winger: Is He The Right Man For The Blues?

According to a recent report by The Mirror, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side have been linked with a possible move for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha. The Ivorian international is very highly rated in the Premier League realm and is said to be high on Chelsea’s list of attacking targets for the upcoming January transfer window. Although the Blues first-choice starters Willian and Christian Pulisic have been putting up good performances throughout the campaign, Lampard is claimed to be keen on making additions.

It has been suggested that the versatile attacker stated explicitly last summer that he was very keen on making a move to one of the country’s bigger clubs. Despite Chelsea’s interest in English international Jadon Sancho, the fact that Borussia Dortmund would be unwilling to sell their man in January could pull Zaha closer to a switch across London to Stamford Bridge.

How Have The Chelsea Attackers Performed So Far This Season?

Tammy Abraham has undoubtedly had the biggest influence since breaking into Frank Lampard’s Chelsea setup. The youngster, who was on loan at Aston Villa last season, has been in terrific goalscoring form and has been a talismanic presence in front of goal – something that the Blues have missed since Diego Costa’s departure a few years ago. Meanwhile, Michy Batshuayi has been an able back-up, but still needs to work on finishing off chances if he is to keep his place in this stacked Chelsea squad.

Behind them, Pulisic and Willian have been Lampard’s first choice attacking options, and they’ve managed to counter the pre-season concerns and put up a decent showing so far. While the Brazilian’s work-rate and experience have been crucial for the Blues in the final third, the American brings a breath of freshness that is very similar to what Eden Hazard offered last season. Callum Hudson-Odoi’s performances though haven’t been entirely up to scratch, and it’s no surprise that Lampard is looking at acquiring an attacker who could seamlessly slot into any of the aforementioned positions.

Why Chelsea Should Sign Wilfried Zaha In January

The Ivorian has been at Crystal Palace for a while now, and over his two stints at Selhurst Park, has notched up an impressive 55 goals and 67 assists from just under 350 appearances for the club. He provides an excellent attacking option because of his capability to play anywhere across the front-line. Often deployed as a striker for Palace as well, he could come in as competition to Abraham as well.

The Blues haven’t been hit with any long-term injuries so far this season, but if they were to lose any one of their main attackers, there would be warning lights flashing at Stamford Bridge. Lampard’s men also have the Champions League to worry about now, and having finished second in the group, will be awaiting a tough draw for the next set of matches. Adding a proven top-quality attacker to the side is certainly going to be a massive bonus for the Blues, and Zaha does look like the most realistic option for the winter.
