Celtic Looking To Arrange Talks With Teen Amid Leicester Interest: Why Rodgers Might Have Edge Over Lennon?

According to the reports from All Nigeria Soccer as cited by Leicestershire Live, Celtic are in the mix to sign Nigeria’s upcoming talent Ibrahim Said. Premier League high flyers Leicester City are also said to be interested. A host of clubs are said to be chasing Said’s signature, but Leicester City and Celtic are the two clubs who are looking to arrange talks with him and his representatives.

Other clubs who are also monitoring his situation are Porto, Benfica, Chelsea and Manchester City. Said currently plies his trade for Dabo Babes Academy in Nigeria.

The 17-year-old starred for Nigeria in the u-17 World Cup recently, and he scored a hat-trick against Brazil. Nigeria were knocked out in the round of 16 by the Netherlands, but Said was able to catch the eye of many. Said is known to be a versatile player as he can play as a right-winger or as an attacking midfielder. He has been likened with former Chelsea ace Victor Moses.

Celtic’s current young options on the wings

Said is probably being seen as a talent for the future, and Celtic have done well over the past few years in bringing in young sensations. They already have an exciting winger in Marian Shved, who is a Ukranian international. However, he is still trying to adjust to the demands of the Premiership. Daniel Arzani is another young winger who is on loan from Manchester City and is looking to establish himself in the Premiership.

Celtic also have a 16-year-old sensation in Karamoko Dembele who has already made his senior team debut. So it is fair to say that Celtic are not hesitant in taking punts on young players and Said will probably fit in that category as well.

The Hoops have got an established player like James Forrest who plays from the right and anyone trying to get a regular place in that role will need to be a sensational talent. Said will have to fight it out with the youth and reserve team before he gets close to first-team football with the Bhoys.

Why might Leicester have an edge?

With Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City also now interested, it can be a battle filled with subplots for Said’s signature. The Foxes are currently flying high in the Premier League, and they are on course to get Champions League football. Hence, European football, which is often seen as a tipping point by many when an English club and Celtic compete for a player’s signature, will be negated if the Foxes continue with their excellent work. It goes without saying that Leicester can offer Said a better financial deal as well.
