According to a report from the Daily Post, as cited by the Daily Record, Celtic are being linked with a move for highly-rated teenager Adrian Akande. The 16-year-old recently parted ways with Chelsea. However, it has been reported that Akande has already trained and trialled for Rangers. The Nigerian is a winger by trade, and he has represented Nigeria’s u-17 side during the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.
Akande made his debut for Chelsea’s u-23 side when he was just 15. The winger has also trained with the likes of West Ham United and German outfit, Hoffenheim. Premier League heavyweights like Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham have also been credited with an interest. It is a testament to Akande’s talents that so many big clubs are chasing him. Celtic will hope that they can get him in the future as the winger could become a future star at Parkhead. Also, the fact that he played for Chelsea’s u-23 side when he was just 15 suggests that he is an exceptional talent in the making.
Akande’s agent describes his style and potential
The winger is said to have scored (All Nigeria Soccer) 30 goals and assisted 22 times in 42 games for the Blues’ youth teams last season. Former Millwall player Tobi Alabi and his current agent described him as someone who has no weaknesses. Alabi explained Akande’s talent and said, ”Adrian has been called for five England camps and has rejected all of them in hope of playing for Nigeria.”
