Newcastle United are running towards safety with ease as they registered a crucial 2-0 win against Sheffield United. Steve Bruce’s appointment was met with a lot of negativity the but the former Hull City boss has managed to carry on the excellent work which Rafael Benitez did at the club. Next, they will host Southampton in the Premier League at the St. James’ Park.
The Saints have managed to climbed out of the relegation zone with back to back wins. They still need some more points to feel safe, and we expect them to give their all once again. The Magpies have looked solid defensively, and they carry a significant threat on the counter. The Toon have an impressive record against Southampton at home as they have lost just one of their last 14 Premier League games, winning 10 in the process.
Team News: Matt Ritchie and Jamaal Lascelles are the two major absentees for the Magpies at the moment as they are out with long term injuries. DeAndre Yedlin is expected to recover from his hip injury. Florian Lejeune is also closing in on a comeback.
Newcastle United Predicted Lineup Vs Southampton
Formation (5-4-1)
Defence
Martin Dubravka continues to be reliable in goal, and he should start between the sticks again. The Toon will once again lineup in their robust back three. Ciaran Clark has looked impressive in defence, and he should start in the centre of the back three. Fabian Schar might return to the lineup after missing out the last few games. He could start on Clark’s right. Federico Fernandez could shift on the left of the back three.
Jetro Willems has been instrumental as a wingback, and he will keep his place on the left again. Javier Manquillo will be in a similar role down the right. Yedlin might have to wait further to get his chances.
Midfield
Jonjo Shelvey scored another crucial goal against the Blades, and he is on a good run of form. He should start in midfield. Isaac Hayden could keep Sean Longstaff out once again as he has done well in central areas. Allan Saint-Maximin finally got the goal which he was looking for against Sheffield United, and he will keep his place on the left flank. Miguel Almiron will likely feature from the right-wing.
Attack
Andy Carroll justified his selection in the last game over Joelinton as he won quite a few duels and was a nuisance in the opposition’s box. We expect the Englishman to lead the line after his impressive outing.
