According to The Guardian, Borussia Dortmund are interested in the services of Rhian Brewster. The Liverpool youngster has emerged as a potential target for the Bundesliga giants as they aim to reinforce their attacking department. It is believed that the Reds are actively trying to send Brewster out on loan in the upcoming January transfer window, making Dortmund a potential suitor. But, is it really the right move for the youngster?
How Brewster can fit into the Dortmund side
Borussia Dortmund were one of the busiest teams in the summer, having signed the likes of Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard to strengthen their attacking department following the departure of Christian Pulisic. And while the creativity hasn’t been an issue, the Black and Yellows have lacked the presence of an out and out forward.
Paco Alcacer enjoyed a promising start to the campaign. But, the Spaniard’s progress was halted by another injury. The Spaniard has now returned to full fitness, but Dortmund could certainly welcome the arrival of an alternative for the ex-Barcelona star. And that’s where Brewster could come into the fray.
The Liverpool starlet’s addition to the team would offer Lucien Favre an additional option in the final third. He can deploy him alongside Marco Reus in attack or advise him to operate as the lone centre forward, in the absence of Alcacer.
Can Brewster follow the footsteps of Jadon Sancho?
Bundesliga has become an attractive platform for English talents in recent years. And given Brewster’s immense talent, it won’t be surprising to see if he becomes the next English player to make his breakthrough in the German top flight. Especially at Dortmund, he has a considerable chance of making an impact.
As mentioned earlier, the youngster can be considered as a primary alternative for Alcacer, who is more of an impact player rather than a consistent performer in the number nine slot. Hence, Brewster has scope for playing a more prominent role in the first-team, if he can really fulfil his potential in the tactical nature of German football.
Either way, a move to Bundesliga certainly makes sense for the 19-year-old, who is unlikely to get regular game-time under Jurgen Klopp. And with the January transfer window just around the corner, it would be interesting to see whether or not Dortmund do manage to secure the services of the young forward.
