Barisic And Davis Get 9, Morelos With 6 | Rangers Players Rated In Exquisite Win Vs Celtic

The day of destiny in Scottish football delivered yet another exhilarating Old Firm derby this afternoon at Celtic Park. Rangers have already been defeated by the Hoops on two previous occasions, and Steven Gerrard’s men had to snatch a result this time to stay relevant in the title hunt. An electrifying Celtic Park cheered for the hosts throughout, but the visitors had the last laugh as they snatched a commendable 2-1 win against the Champions. They are now two points adrift of Celtic with a game in hand!

Below are the Rangers players rated in their dramatic win against Celtic.

Allan McGregor: 8

Majestic between the sticks as he denied Ryan Christie spectacularly from the spot. Was unlucky when Callum McGregor’s effort from a distance deflected off Odsonne Edouard’s hand and earned the Hoops a controversial equaliser. The 37-year-old custodian was spot on otherwise as he kept on making timely saves to frustrate the Bhoys.

James Tavernier: 7.5

Had a matured display from the right-hand side of the Gers’ backline. Balanced his game perfectly and did not allow James Forrest to cause menace from the wide.

Connor Goldson: 8

Was towering in deep defence as he kept on winning duels both aerially as well as physically. Did exceptionally well to deal with Celtic’s crosses and set-pieces.

Nikola Katic: 8.5

Conceded a spot-kick for bringing Christopher Jullien down early in the game. But the Croatian improved significantly ever since and proved to be the Bears’ hero when he headed home to restore the lead from Barisic’s corner.

Borna Barisic: 9

Has been in the form of his life as he set it up for Ryan Kent to break the deadlock around the 36th-minute mark. His set-pieces were outrageous, and one such delivery from a corner guided Katic to make it 2-1 ten minutes into the second half. Struggled defensively at times against the pace of Jeremie Frimpong, but the Croatian managed to deal with the pressure and snatched a win for Rangers.

Ryan Jack: 8

Never allowed Celtic to settle in the middle of the park. Kept on breaking their moves and converting defence into attacking threats showing superiority over Scott Brown and Callum McGregor.

Steven Davis: 9

The experienced midfield ace was handed a start in place of Scott Arfield. The decision, however, proved to be a masterstroke by Gerrard as the Northern Irishman not only denied Jullien twice off the line but also covered every blade of grass exhibiting his sheer commitment and work ethics. Was taken off in the closing seconds to be replaced by George Edmundson.

Glen Kamara: 6.5

Tried to calm things down in midfield amid such a high-voltage contest. His challenges were a bit clumsy at times, and the gaffer opted to take him off midway through the second half. Scott Arfield replaced the Finnish professional in the centre of the pitch.

Joe Aribo: 8

Enjoyed an excellent outing as he was full of energy and enthusiasm throughout the match. Created chances in the attacking third, also did well to retain possession and play smart one-twos to open up space in Celtic defence.

Ryan Kent: 8.5

Delivered once again in the derby as he made no mistake to beat past Forster and earn the visitors a first-half lead. Kept on teasing the Hoops backline from the left-hand flank and often tracked back to help out the defenders late in the match.

Alfredo Morelos: 6

Couldn’t break his Celtic duck as he wasted several glorious opportunities to seal the deal. Was shown a second yellow in the closing seconds for diving inside the box.

Rangers Substitutes

Scott Arfield: 7

Was brought in place of Kamara to inject fresh legs and experience. The Canadian was smart with his movements for the final half an hour of the game.

George Edmundson: NA

Played too little to warrant a rating.
