Leeds United are fighting for the direct promotion spots, but they don’t have one of the best teams in terms of squad depth. However, Marcelo Bielsa has somehow found a way to plug in the gaps during the injury crisis as he has used several players in multiple positions since he took over.
Concerning update about White
Recently Beren Cross of Leeds Live provided an update that one cannot count out the possibility of Brighton recalling Ben White back in January. He also indicated that a big-money offer could tempt the Seagulls to sell him in January. That would be disastrous for Leeds United as White has emerged as the mainstay at the back.
There weren’t many expectations from White as he hadn’t played in the Premier League or the Championship before. His only significant experience was with Peterborough United who ply their trade in League One. However, White has taken everyone by surprise with his performances as he has been impeccable at the back so far. His reading of the game and positioning sense make him a standout defender.
Bielsa should consider this Leicester City Ace
But the Whites now cannot ignore the possibility that they could lose him in January and for that, they need to keep an eye on his replacement. One player they should consider is Filip Benkovic of Leicester City. The Croatian defender has found it hard to be a part of the matchday squad at the King Power Stadium, but we feel that he could be a hit for the Whites at Elland Road.
Benkovic had spent the last season on loan with Celtic where he was brilliant at the back. His ability to play out from the back, robustness and aerial skills made him a top defender for the Hoops. Sometimes he was so at ease in defence that he was compared with former Celtic defender Virgil Van Dijk who is one of the best in the business right now.
Brendan Rodgers recently indicated that he would be open to sending Benkovic away on loan in January. The Whites are fighting for promotion and moving to Leeds United can be considered as a good move for the Croatian defender even from Leicester’s point of view.
Benkovic even has Champions League experience under his belt as he played for Dinamo Zagreb in Europe’s biggest competition. The 22-year-old has all the attributes to succeed in the Championship so Bielsa should consider getting him on loan.
