According to a recent report by The Times (paid subscription required), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to be extremely keen on bringing Leicester City star James Maddison to Old Trafford in the near future. Although the interest from the United camp has been confirmed beyond any doubt, the report has provided further information about the situation at hand.
It has been suggested that despite the heavy interest from the Man United boss, United will not make a bid for the midfielder in January, considering just how unwilling to sell Leicester City are at the moment. It has also been claimed that Brendan Rodgers has stated that their duty for the upcoming transfer window would be to exclusively ‘keep what we have’.
Why Have Manchester United Targeted James Maddison?
The Englishman has been a breath of fresh air compared to all the other midfielders currently plying their trade in the Premier League. Despite not being overly quick, the youngster uses his technical ability to dribble past people with ease. The Red Devils have lacked a proper creative source in the middle of the park, ever since Paul Pogba picked up an unfortunate injury a few months ago.
James Maddison has all the right attributes to come into the Man United squad and pull off wonders. He is adept at keeping the ball moving at the heart of midfield, and also has a keen eye for a final pass. His long-distance shooting and general set-piece delivery have both been features of the Foxes’ play so far this season, effectively making him the ideal option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to target in their current predicament.
How Has James Maddison’s Season Gone So Far?
Although the youngster was a member of the Leicester first-team last season, he didn’t make quite the impact he has made this time around. There’s no denying that many would’ve predicted his rise to stardom last time out, but the conviction and confidence with which he’s performing at the moment is setting him apart from the rest of the crowd
He’s played in 12 league matches for Brendan Rodgers’ men this season, and he’s found the back of the net on four occasions, having setup a couple of assists along the way as well. He’s developed into one of the most vital cogs in the Foxes’ attacking system, and it’s no surprise that he’s going to become the primary target for many of the Premier League’s top clubs in the coming months.
Just How Important Is It For Leicester To Keep James Maddison?
The youngster has been nothing short of a revelation since breaking onto the scene at Norwich City in the Championship. Since making a move up to the top-flight though, the Englishman has shown no signs of slowing down and seems to be getting better and better with every game. With the Foxes looking like they have a hugely ambitious project in the works at the King Power Stadium, keeping their star man James Maddison put, is sure to be one of the biggest priorities.
