According to a recent report by the Turkish news outlet Fanatik (translated by Sport Witness), Besiktas chief Erdal Torunogullari will hold discussions with the club’s manager, Abdullah Avci over the possibility of signing Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius next summer. It is believed that the Black Eagles are eager to make his loan deal permanent at the end of this campaign (via Fanatik).
Karius’ Impressive Form In Turkish Football
The German custodian has been in a rich vein of form for the Turkish giants this season after putting in some outstanding performances in the Super Lig. He has featured in 14 matches for Avci’s side this term, conceding 20 goals while securing five clean sheets across all competitions. The 26-year-old has also represented Germany at various youth levels but is yet to earn a senior cap for his country.
Karius is currently on a two-year-long loan spell at Turkey but is set to return to his parent club Liverpool next summer. However, Besiktas could activate the option to acquire the German’s services permanently for €8m (via Fanatik).
Given how Karius’ spell at Anfield ended, it is quite likely that the Reds would allow him to leave if the Turkish giants agree to meet their demands. He could also use this opportunity to prove his worth once again in European football.
What Does The German Custodian Offer On The Field?
Karius is a competent goalkeeper who boasts fast reflexes and can pull off some work-class saves when he is playing with confidence on the pitch. It is true that he completedly crumbled under pressure during his disastrous performance for Liverpool in the 2018 UEFA Champions League final versus Real Madrid. However, the German shot-stopper has come a long way since that unfortunate night at Kyiv and is currently one of the best keepers in the Turkish top-flight.
Should The Reds Part Ways With Karius At The End Of This Season?
The European champions are now better off without Karius as they have got two quality keepers, Alisson Becker and Adrian in their squad. Jurgen Klopp will be wise to cash in on Karius next summer as he will have no use for the German goalie at Merseyside next season.
Even if the Reds head coach fails to come to an agreement with Besiktas, he should still consider parting ways with Karius and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of his team.
