According to a recent report by Aksam (via Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur have maintained their interest in acquiring the services of Vedat Muriqi from Fenerbahce. The same source has also claimed that Spurs have been making enquiries for the striker with the Turkish club demanding a bid in the region of €20m for their prized asset.
It is understood that Fenerbahce could sell Muriqi at the end of this campaign as they would need to raise funds for incoming transfers.
Muriqi’s Stellar Form In The Turkish Top-Flight
The 25-year-old has enjoyed a brilliant start to this season after putting in some terrific match-winning performances for the Turkish outfit. He has scored seven goals in 11 appearances for Ersun Yanal’s side this term across all competitions. The Kosovo international is averaging 3.9 shots, 1.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Turkish Super Lig (stats via whoscored).
The Prizren-born talent has proven himself to be a prolific goal-scorer since sealing a move from Caykur Rizespor last summer. He has also netted eight goals in 23 international matches for the Kosovo national side so far. However, Muriqi is currently out of action with an ankle injury that has halted his remarkable progress at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
What Will The Kosovo International Add To Pochettino’s Side?
Standing at 6ft 4inches, Muriqi is a commanding presence inside the opposition penalty box and can win a lot of aerial duels using his incredible upper body strength. He excels at holding the ball up to get others involved in the final third. The Kosovo prospect has transformed himself into an unforgiving finisher, and his shots often pack a lot of power.
Is Muriqi The Right Choice For Spurs?
Muriqi has all the skillset required to succeed in the Premier League as long as he can stay injury-free. He could prove to be an ideal back-up for Harry Kane at the North London club. His goal-scoring prowess, coupled with his ability to be a potent target man, make him an excellent choice for Mauricio Pochettino to consider in the coming months.
Spurs need to freshen up their squad if they are to turn things around for the better at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Hence, recruiting a promising striker like Muriqi makes a lot of sense for Pochettino if he intends to see his side compete for silverware over the next few years.
