According to a recent report by the Daily Express, Premier League club Chelsea are said to be lining up a winter bid for Crystal Palace’s Ivorian international star Wilfried Zaha if the CAS hearing about their transfer ban goes as positively as Frank Lampard hopes it does.
If Chelsea are permitted to buy players in the winter, expect the club to splurge in the transfer window. It has been suggested that the likes of Moussa Dembele, Ben Chilwell and Timo Werner are also on the Blues’ shopping list.
What Attributes Do Wilfried Zaha Add To A Team?
The Crystal Palace man is a tricky winger who can be impossible to stop once he gets into full flow. Supremely confident in possession, he isn’t afraid to use his skills to beat a man. He also has the quality to pick up cross-field passes as well. Adept at linking up play in the final third, the 26-year-old would add a degree of finesse to any team’s attack-line. He is an excellent dribbler and has a knack of timing his runs in behind very well.
Although he currently plies his trade for Palace, the Ivorian certainly has the quality to make it into the squad at any of the Premier League’s top six clubs. He has scored some special league goals along the way and has been Palace’s deadliest and most efficient player, for quite a while now. He picked up ten goals and ten assists last league campaign, further signifying the versatility he provides.
How Would Wilfried Zaha Fit In At Chelsea?
The Blues have an abundance of quality players in midfield and attack and aren’t the kind of side that look like they need immediate reinforcements. The resurgence of Christian Pulisic has come at a perfect time for the Blues as well. With the likes of Pedro and Callum Hudson-Odoi now having to do with playing time off the bench, whether or not Zaha will have an impact is a massive question.
Although this is the case, the fact that the likes of Pedro and Willian are already on the wrong side of their 30s could be enough to motivate Lampard to go for Zaha in the winter. The Ivorian, undeniably, is a Premier League veteran now, having been around since 2013. Despite the inconsistency in his performances, he’s proven time and again that he has the quality to turn a game around singlehandedly.
Will Wilfried Zaha Be A Good Signing For The Blues?
Although the Blues do seem stacked in attack, there is a sense of fragility that runs within the squad. Despite being a good player, Zaha wouldn’t provide the Blues with any kind of consistency going forward. With the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic still a lot younger than Zaha, and already performing at such a high standard for the Blues, Frank Lampard certainly needs to think about whether this transfer is actually one that would benefit the squad.
