According to a recent report by Diario GOL, Real Madrid could hijack Barcelona’s move to secure the services of Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan. The same source has also claimed that the Argentine striker does not want to make a switch to the Nou Camp anymore and would instead prefer to join the Galacticos in the coming months.
Martinez’s Impressive Form For The San Siro Outfit
The 22-year-old has made a stellar start to this season after putting in several goal-scoring performances for Inter thus far. The former Racing Club talent has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 16 appearances for Antonio Conte’s side this term on all fronts.
Martinez has averaged 4.1 shots, 0.9 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game in the Serie A this season (stats via whoscored). He also has a decent scoring record for Argentina having registered nine goals in 15 international matches for his nation thus far.
The South American talent is a striker at the top of his game and is only getting better with each game. So it is no surprise that some of Europe’s top clubs are looking to recruit him. However, one can question whether he has what it takes to succeed in a foreign league away from Italy.
What Will The Argentine Bring To The Bernabeu?
Martinez is an accomplished finisher in the final third and can score goals consistently in domestic as well as continental football. He also doesn’t shy away from setting up other players if they are in a better position than him. The biggest test for the Argentine marksman would now be to continue his excellent form for the remainder of this campaign so that he can establish himself amongst the best strikers in Europe.
Is Martinez The Right Choice For Zidane?
The South American sensation could flourish with an opportunity to play at the Spanish capital as he has all the makings required to become a top goal-getter for them in the coming years. Zinedine Zidane needs to find a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema after Luka Jovic’s underwhelming start to life at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.
Therefore, Martinez will be an excellent choice for the Galacticos as he is capable of pushing Benzema for a starting berth every week. The Argentina international will also be a long-term acquisition for Los Blancos as he will be able to lead the charge at Madrid for years to come.
