Glen Kamara was a steal for Rangers at £50,000, and he has emerged as a vital cog in Gerrard’s plans ever since his arrival earlier this year. The former Arsenal midfielder is now being linked with a move away, and it is believed that an offer of around £8m (Herald Scotland) could do the trick even though the Bears are under no financial pressure to sell.
Premier League clubs like Brighton and Crystal Palace have been linked with him, and it cannot be ignored that both the teams have the financial muscle to lure someone like Kamara. The Finland international though revealed that he is currently concentrating on Rangers.
Kamara on transfer rumours
The midfielder recently spoke to Finnish media outlet YLE and said, ”Going up to Scotland’s been good for me, for my career, You have everything there, nutrition, the coaches, you’ve got your team-mates, better players who make you better yourself, so it’s been great. I’m a Rangers player until told; otherwise, I have no relevance to anything else, so I’m focused on Rangers and Finland at the moment.”
Rangers are seemingly in a tight title race with Celtic and Kamara has played a crucial role in the middle so far. He started this season slowly, but he is back in his element in the last few weeks. His control and composure in the middle allow Rangers to dominate the game. Kamara has the physical attributes to cope with the feisty nature of the Premiership, and it is not surprising to see him being linked with a Premier League move.
Can Gerrard afford to lose Kamara in January?
The Bears have decent options in the middle, and Kamara’s latest performances have kept Joe Aribo out. We believe that if Rangers get an offer of around £8-10m, then they could very likely sell the Finland midfielder. Losing him will be a setback, but the Bears should have enough depth to cope without him.
Rangers recently posted losses of just over £11m and the club will need to keep the financial side of the things in mind. Ideally, Gerrard should look to keep hold of him until the end of the season, but an eye-catching offer cannot be ignored. The Bears have been linked with Lewis Ferguson of Aberdeen who is being eyed as a replacement for Kamara. Ferguson might not make an impact straight away, but he is a talent for the future.
The likes of Joe Aribo, Scott Arfield and Andy King might have to step up in midfield this season if Kamara goes on to leave Ibrox in the winter transfer period.
